    Need Help With Computer Upgrades

To be honest, that computer is pretty old and you should probably get a new one soon if you want to play future games at good graphical settings. However, you can buy a new GPU and PSU for it, which will allow it to play any current game at medium-high settings at 1080p if you get the...

Thinking about building a new gaming rig... looking for advice

Updated parts list. Removed the SSD, since that put the build way over budget when paired with the more expensive CPU, RAM, and the new HSF. The stuff I said in my first post in this thread still applies, and we need to know the answer to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse question. PCPartPicker...

Thinking about building a new gaming rig... looking for advice

If it sounded like I meant buy Haswell then buy Skylake later, sorry. I just put those there as placeholders, OP should wait and buy Skylake when it comes out.

    First build

Yeah, that, plus most cases around that price point by Corsair and NZXT have decent cable management options (doesn't have to be high end), and that one doesn't. But I'm sure it'll work okay.

    Hopefully that case is okay...

    What to update next??

That might actually hurt airflow... Please, take a picture. An ATX board will cost only about $20 more. Skylake, the new Intel CPUs, will cost the same amount but you may need new RAM, which could increase the cost overall.

Thinking about building a new gaming rig... looking for advice

An i7 is pointless for a gaming rig. Stupid to waste a hundred bucks when it could go towards something better for a gaming rig, like an HDD. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($241.98 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI...

    What to update next??

Yes, it's probably your processor. Is your case M-ATX or ATX? Because I would recommend getting ATX if your case can support it. Can you send a picture of the inside of your case so we can judge airflow? Also, are you sure that all your fans are pointed the right way (Front fan should be...

    What to update next??

AMD GPUs can go up to around 115C. Please run it again, and only turn it off if it goes over 115-120C. Have you tried switching the BIOS switch on the top of the card?

    What to update next??

Do this. Also, what's your GPU temp while gaming?

    First build

The 200 series is less power efficient and louder than the 300 series, but the 290 is a better card then the 380.

    First build

I would get a case from NZXT, Fractal Design, or Corsiar. You can get something better than that Zalman for the same price from those three brands. What resolution will you be playing at, and will you be playing demanding games? The R9-380 is significantly worse than the 290.

    What to update next??

Have you tried removing and reinserting the GPU? I seriously doubt it would help, but it's worth a try.

    What to update next??

What's your GPU usage in Witcher 3 (or any game that you're getting low FPS in)? Did you clean install off of a pirated copy or a backup, something that could have a virus or be corrupted in someway?

    Beware the FREE Windows10 Upgrade!!

It's kind of like trading in your old OS for a new one, with a 30 day trial period. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. And you're not stuck with it forever. You could buy Windows 7 or 8 again, or even switch to Linux.

First build in a long time.

To put it bluntly, very bad build. An i5 would be much better than that AMD, that GPU is very old, the PSU is way overkill, and the case isn't good. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Micro Center) Motherboard...

    2GB 960 or 4GB 970?

The 290 really kicks the 960's ass. In fact, they aren't even comparable. The 290 is almost 970 level, and it's not even that much more than the 960. I highly recommend getting it over a 960, there's really no reason not too. I'm by no means an AMD fanboy, I just look out for the best deals...

    OS: Win 7. Should I?

Get whatever one you want, then upgrade to Windows 10. Both 7 and 8 are getting it for free.
