    Help need A.S.A.P

Sounds like your power supply died or got zapped. Any surge protectors or a UPS on your system? Sometimes a surge can take out the power supply and other components as well. Tough to troubleshoot unless you swap out each part to see who the culprit is. I would hate to say it's the...

    Need a little assistance

Yeah $300 would be tough to get a those parts for any good gaming. Although I would check out eBay. You can always get lucky and score some pretty nice parts at a low price depending on who's bidding. I've gotten some pretty sweet deals that way, but luck plays a big part in it.

    workgroup or domain

It depends on what you are going to do with it. If you want to push out policies and scripts and control all authentication using Active Directory, than a Domain is what you will need. A Domain isn't just for large companies. You can have 15 employees and run an Exchange Server and Active...

    write HD to zero

Use Dariks Boot and Nuke (Its Free!) http://dban.sourceforge.net/ It creates a boot CD for you that you just put in the PC and boot up. The program does the rest. You can choose your level of "nuke" and how many times you want it to write over the drive. It takes time, but works great. I use...

    Ram Problem

That's very odd. I would bet that you have a 128MB stick and maybe 64MB ram built into the motherboard. Sounds like a RAM issue, try pulling the 128MB stick out and see what happens. But it sounds like the onboard RAM has gone bad and that's why it is only counting up to 13MB. If you pull...

    hard drive

Why don't you try booting off a live CD bootdisk such as Barts PE. The entire OS runs off the CD, or do a live linux CD. If the OS runs fine off the CD, then you will have a pretty good idea that it's the hard drive and worth replacing it.

    My laptop problem.....PLEASE HELP

Sounds like something may be corrupted on the hard drive. Just to rule stuff out, I would try loading another OS like Linux just to see if the install goes through. Sometimes loading a different OS and formatting the drive with the new OS will actually correct some hard drive errors. If...

Problems with sharing a connection, help please

It depends on the router you are using. But most Linksys routers will allow you to prioritize packets. You can basically have packets destined for your computer to have a higher priority than his. This would ensure that your connection runs fast. Login to the router and look at the options...

    New Basic Desktop for Grandparents

Not to sound like an Apple pusher. But for that price you can get a used Imac G5. And the screen and computer all all built into 1. I did this for my Mom (age 65) and she is not that computer literate. Actually I recommend Mac's to anyone who is not PC savy. This will save you tons of...

    USB 2.0 vs Firewire

Going by spec's USB looks faster, but like others have mentioned, Firwire is on it's own bus and has a higher "constant" transfer rate. You will see that transferring large files over Firewire is faster than USB2.0. USB starts off with a burst, but then slows down. Firewire is more consistant...

Whats better, this Dell, or this Mac?

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but nobody can say 1 is better than the other. But a lot of people just look at the price difference and the specs. Like many before me said, it also depends on the software you will be using. The Mac was a cheaper choice for me because if I were to buy...

Difference between Macbook and Macbook Pro.

I have a Macbook and love it. It depends on what you will be doing with it. The Macbook Pro's come with larger screens, Firewire 800/400, and they have dedicated video memory. The Macbook's memory is shared. But I never had a problem. The Macbook also just has Firewire 400 which also is not a...

    Help Please!

What kind of laptops? Are they Mac's? If so, just connect a firewire cable from one to the other and bootup both laptops. Hold down the "T" key on the good laptop and it will boot in target disk mode. You can then access the hard drive of the broken one and transfer the files to the disk on...

    Extremely SLOW boot time...

Also try getting rid of the Windows Prefetch Windows XP has this feature that loads commonly used programs at boot time. Here is how it works: Yesterday you used MS Word, and Duke Nukem 3D. Today you boot your system to check e-mail. It sees parts of these two programs in the prefetch...

Sony laptop wont boot from CD

Exactly what he said. But keep in mind that older model laptop's and desktops may not have support for booting of USB in the bios. Just thought I'd let you know before you drive yourself crazy trying to find the settings and wondering why they're not there.

    c2d macbooks

Be cautious about the Magsafe adapter I caught mine just before it started to melt! I bought my Macbook in June. A couple of weeks ago, I would notice that my Macbook would drop to battery power even though it was plugged in. The little light on the magsafe would be off and the charge...

    Mac vs. Windows

It depends on what you are using it for. I use both. The software that comes on the Mac is amazing. With Windows, I had to purchase programs for video editing, audio recording/editing, burning home movies etc. That will cost you much more than the price difference of a Mac and a PC...
