have you tried booting to an xp cdrom and then running the repair console. just type chkdsk /r at the prompt and this should fix your issues

more than likely dell doesn't have drivers for vista of that model BUt the drivers you have installed will more than likely work ok but if they dont vista will go look for a driver and download the latest version for you anyway so i dont think you have anything really to worry about.

To narrow things down a bit here there motherboard will take either DDR ram or DDR2 no others. I cannot find your motherboard spec on google if your still not sure i would suggest taking the base unit to a local pc shop to get them to tell you wish memory it would accept and should not take...

Yeah would have to agree there eventhough there's power getting through the motherboard will still power up and drives will still spin up. If you have removed the motherboard make sure there is nothing shorting itself out by a motherboard screw for instance.

Hiya, Also be careful when removing the CPU fan from the motherboard if its not done right there's a chance you may break the plastic clip on the board if you put too much preasure on it trying to remove or put it back on.
