    8800GT and my setup...

Yeah, at that point you'd only have problems playing Crysis on highest. Mmmm....If I weren't moving in may, I'd actually be getting a QX9650, eight gigs of RAM, and an 8800GTS (superclocked, of course). *sigh* If I didn't like sleeping indoors so much, I'd have the funds to finally build an...

    8800GT and my setup...

As far as I can tell, yes (by the way, I was reading the wrong sig for the CPU; yours should be fine). It might not be the fastest, but it should be able to handle it just fine. If you do see some performance issues, I'd look at the RAM first, but I don't think you will.

    8800GT and my setup...

Exactly. Taking an old machine and putting a top-of-the-line video card on it will give you the ability to display really shiny graphics, but graphics aren't all that's going on in the game. The video card may be up to the task, but the RAM and the CPU might not. No matter how amazing your video...

    8800GT and my setup...

Okay, sorry; I explained that poorly. The video card will still perform the same, however the video games that will take advantage of the 8800GT (I assume that the GT is a large upgrade for you) will require more CPU and RAM speed, and in those games they are the bottleneck. Your CPU and RAM...

    8800GT and my setup...

Your RAM might also be a bit of a bottleneck. If you want to compliment that 8800GT, I'd look at getting at least moderate latency DDR2 800 RAM (in dual-channel for best performance), and a Core 2 series proc. Not necessary to upgrade, but if you're looking for something to match and maximize...

    help please

Do you get video for a while after your computer turns on, and then it goes blank, or did this happen, and now you can't get it to display video at all? If it's that it happened once, and now you don't get video any more, it could be that the video card was jostled out of the slot. Sounds like...

    Asus P5K3 Deluxe Quick question

He was asking about the P5k3 Deluxe; the board that you linked to, PC eye, is the P5K Deluxe; the biggest difference I see between the P5K Deluxe and the P5K3 Deluxe is that the P5K3 uses DDR3. I wasn't sure if you were recommending that board to him, so I thought I'd clarify the DDR3 exclusive...

    Asus P5K3 Deluxe Quick question

The P5K3 Deluxe has 4 DDR3 RAM slots, and DDR2, despite having the same number of pins is not pin-compatible with DDR3. You'd have to go to DDR3.

    Computer freezing up

Sounds like it could be either a heat issue or a voltage problem (or even just the OS). Try downloading a program called SpeedFan and checking the temperatures and voltages of your computer. With the voltages what you're looking for is any major deviation from what it's supposed to be. For...

    Firewalls

Ah, the Windows XP firewall. The speed-bump to the internet :). I prefer BlackICE. Nothing gets past that sucker. It gets extra points for the reference, too.

Awesome for games, not for videos

Are you trying to watch them full-screen? Those aren't exactly the highest quality videos.

    Problem loading Windows XP

Power supply, maybe? If you can, check the voltages just to be sure (I don't think it would be a power problem, but I don't discount the possibilty).

Sorry, I don't. I'll actually get it now (I think I have an old screen name I can use).

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

Check in all the menus that are there (what the menus are varies from BIOS to BIOS, but maybe look for something like "advanced chipset options").

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

It should say right as it starts to boot up (before the Windows logo comes up). Maybe in the lower right corner?

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

Usually by pressing 'del', but it should say on start-up (something to the effect of "press" key "to enter BIOS options")

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

Do you know if dual-channel was activated with the 2x256 MB sticks? That support site leads me to believe it was. Try running it with the 1 gig and 256 meg card, go into the BIOS, and see if there's an option to deactivate dual-channel. If there is, do so, and try it again with the various combos.

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

It seems likely that one of the RAM sticks got damaged when you removed it (static electricity?). But why would the 1 gig stick not work solo? Hmmm... Is the 1 gig stick the same speed as the other sticks of RAM (for instance, DDR400, DDR333, etc., or PC3200, PC2700, etc. (same thing))? What...

monitor wont turn on after iput new card in, wtf!!!!!

That's a BIOS error code (or just the computer yelling at you ;)). In the motherboard manual it should tell you what the various beeps mean. Since it works or doesn't work in accordance with what RAM you have in there I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a RAM error. Alright, I'm getting a...
