Whatever you do, you don't want to use a caviar green drive to boot from...they're slow as christmas as main drives. They're built for storage and power efficiency, not speed. :) I'd shoot for a Caviar Black, if you're going with western digital. Samsung F3's are nice as well.

Yes, you'll want the motherboard drivers. That'll be stuff like your sound, extra ports if you have them(USB 3.0, firewire, etc), RAID controllers (some of your SATA ports), and other stuff like that.
