Have you tried to use your monitor on something else than your computer? if you do that, and the pixel remains. It could indicate a problem with your monitor.

HD5970 is faster than GTX 480. But GTX 480 is faster than HD5970 under extreme tesselation. HD5970 is a dual GPU whilst GTX 480 is a single gpu. Two GTX 480 in Sli is much faster than HD5970, but also MUCH mroe expensive. How much are you willing to spend on a graphic card(s)?

5770 is good.. but you might consider GTX470-480 or HD5870 or HD5970 if you want those games to run smooth. What resolution do you plan to play with? 5770 won't be good enough in crysis on 1920x1080. I hit 60 fps in crysis maxed out, 4xAA, with my GTX 480 on stock alone. I can reach much higher...
