How many different BIOS "levels" exist?

Every computer is different in which buttons to press. There is a BIOS (on just about all PC's) which you access to change the startup hard drive, change certain settings, etc. That's the first one you mentioned. You have also discovered safe mode, which is built into windows. Many...

    Hacked router?

Yeah its just a netgear router. Can't remember the model of the top of my head though. I reset it and have cleaned off one of our computers of viruses and banned the other one from the network until I get a chance to wipe it. Ok thanks for the advice though, I'll take a look into that if I...

    Hacked router?

Ok so this is completely new to me. My mom the other day insisted she had a virus on her iPad. She was getting all these redirects to the app store. I said sure its probably just sketchy sites you're on. They had also been having DNS issues. So I go to log into the router, and the login...

My dad decided to "Speed up my PC"

My apologies, I thought we were about done. I did save all them before I deleted them if you would like them. However, I said I might be wrong about the pop ups, no more have come up so I believe we may be good to go. Will do, thanks. I had no other intentions.

My dad decided to "Speed up my PC"

If it were up to me, I would. (See thread where I said I had crap on my laptop, and nearly immediately reinstalled.) However this time, reinstalling is the last resort. I do agree, fresh installs of XP (and probably all windows) make a huge difference though. edit- and john never said I was...

At one point there were, those were installed. I removed them first, but what he is seeing is pop-up offering to upgrade, but they may be gone. I'll post back if they do show up again.

My dad decided to "Speed up my PC"

Ok I'm doing that now. There are still popups coming up saying "Please update your windows drivers" and "Your Flash-player (but some knock off name) has an update available" and crap like that. Do we still have more to do?

Having a hard time editing that- should be noted that I did get flash uninstalled and updated, but the second program I couldn't uninstall.

My dad decided to "Speed up my PC"

Well crap, the internet here is slow, so I guess my reply actually didn't get submitted. Both tasks point to the same process, can't remember the location of the top of my head. When combo fix started to run, it did everything like it should, but hung at the step where it was doing the actual...

My dad decided to "Speed up my PC"

It is worth noting this is a PC with monitoring software on it as well. I'll run combo fix and get back to you later once I get back from work. Thanks.
