I just find the address format "aesthetically displeasing" lol

Agreed. There are some neat advantages when theorycrafting but I can't get my wife to stop mixing up the 3rd/4th octet of an IPv4 address... I'm not gonna even go there.

Boosting cell phone reception in underground parking garages

Yeah I had a sneaking feeling it wasn't going to be a "just buy something off the shelf from Amazon and run a bit of coax" ;) Has condo management given any hints as to whether or not they have the stomach for that kind of price tag? Near me, I know that some of the bigger apartment builds...

Boosting cell phone reception in underground parking garages

What is your signal like outside of the parking garage? A cell booster can boost what it can pick up right so if the signal outside of the garage isn't great, it may not help you much (in addition to johnb35s comment about metal and concrete). If you do decide you want to go down the booster...

    Switch problem

Oh man, I used to have an isolated lan setup where all the IPs were 169.254. Manually assigned that way ofc but that would confuse the hell out of people :P Of course, if you set a wide enough subnet mask, it's a nonissue so long as there's physically a connection trail between two (or more)...

Is turning up my GPU fan speed safe?

If it eases your mind a bit you're not really putting water directly in the computer (as in "you're not pouring liquid in") but rather you're putting something that happens to have water in it, in your computer (i.e. putting a waterbottle in your computer case). Dont slice up the hoses and...

Need help with connecting second monitor with adapter

Beers & Smellsorange: You've both selectively homed in on substrings from a paragraph that opened with "outside of the scope of gaming". I suspect there is also a blur between image quality and performance. There would be some wiggle room (had I not scoped to non-gaming) about driver...

Need help with connecting second monitor with adapter

Some games will also, in fact, thankfully, allow you to set your intended monitor (alas, not many). A bit curious about the ramifications for running a multimonitor game (say, Supreme Commander etc) although I suspect that during initialization, the game would rule out the limited capabilities...

    Monitor help

Generally speaking, it doesn't matter all too much unless you have an explicit need for specific features like: High visibility angle Color adjustment (i.e. photography) Pixel pitch (i.e., news/print layout) Extreme framerate Connectivity (i.e., you need to have D-sub connector)...

How can I have four screens on a laptop?

To address your crossplatform mouse (and keyboard), you can use something like Synergy :) *zoom*

How can I have four screens on a laptop?

Totally doable. Grab something like this. There are other makes/models from various vendors but the eVGA model seems to be the most well put together. I have a work laptop that I've got 4-8 monitors hooked up to it (not counting the stupid built in screen). Edit: On second reading, I guess...

    Folding@Home: CF Official Discussion Thread

Well it depends on what card you're powering it with, I know the 260 and the 280 blow the PS3 to smithereens. In my opinion, unless you're really out there to save the world from <insert random condition here>, the GPU client is really all you need to run. The CPU client is miles behind and if...

I dont even see why dualcore is necessary if you're running the GPU client. A clean single core rig is more than sufficient -- dont drink too much of the koolaid ;) The difference only "matters" once yiou get to the higher end.

Although it should be noted that the while having a fast CPU to feed the GPU is nice, it is by FAR a second player for 90%+ of setups, i.e. my laptops can keep up with my secondary machines which have far faster chips, as for the number of cores, you dont need to buy a quad, if you're planning...

    4870 X2 or GTX 280

For low-mid res, 8800GTX or equivalent is more than sufficient. If you're insistant, a GTX 260/4850 is more than enough. Between the 280 and the 4870, I'd take the 4870. ....besides, it changes nothing. :P

Hehe someone noticed. Not gotten around to firing up 4870 + 4850 GPU clients yet, prolly few weeks till I get the time.
