Help! Browser Hijacked among other things..

Hello all, I was recently infected with a virus. I ran many malware removal software programs, and one of the major things was the core.cache.dsk problem. I am pretty sure I successfully deleted core.cache.dsk along with the "mothership" file. However, after reboot, it appeared that my computer was still under the influence of a virus. My internet explorer cannot connect to the internet, while my firefox can along with all my other internet programs. It will not allow me to access certain sites such as bleepingcomputer, and internet explorer has popups, although they are less because of the removal of core.cache.dsk. Now, it will not even let me run programs, such as malware tools, hijackthis, smitfraudfix. I had to rename my hijackthis in order for it to run, and here is the log. Please help me!

I have installed Malwarebyte's anti-malware but unfortunately the virus will not let me open it. It shows up as a process in the task manager but it does not show up as a window or in the system tray.

Hello:

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply i will need:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

HostsXpert - Hosts File Manager.
start HostsXpert
select Make Writable
then select Restore MS Hosts File then Ok
close program on X

then you will be available to download and run programs like ComboFix,Malvarebytes...

Thank you for the help Respital. Here is my current status so far: my computer is still running sluggishly. Unfortunately, all those sites were blocked by my virus, so i had to get combofix off another website. Malwarebyte's anti malware still refuses to run, and this virus is driving me crazy. Also, looking through my system32 folder, I found a file called tmp.reg, which seems very sketchy.

Update: I read magna86's post and restored the original hosts file, but i am still unable to start malwarebyte's anti-malware. Also, after running combofix, my computer restarted automatically. After this restart, I logged in, and when Combofix was generating an error report, my computer gave me the blue screen and I had to restart it again. After restarting, I could not find the log, and I am afraid to try and run Combofix again. However, here is the HiJackThis Log:

Please be advised that you think your problem has gone away, although it is likely it still remains lurking and building up resources for another attack.

Please also reboot your computer and post a full scan log from Malwarebytes'.

Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner
Using Internet Explorer Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html and click the Accept button at the end of the page.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
  • Allow the ActiveX download if necessary.
  • Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
  • Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
  • Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
  • When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
  • Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
  • Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.
Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log and a description of how your PC is behaving.


In your next reply i will need:
  • The Kaspersky log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

The OP has to do the other instructions first as scanning is more important.

I'll post the instructions for removing viewpoint when the logs are given to me.
