Installing a network at home.

I have just bought a wireless-b router and a wireless-b pci adapter
I hooked my windows xp desktop to the router with an ethernet cable...it works fine then i put the wireless pci adapter into a windows 98 desktop and it reconized the hard ware and all and i installed the software but all it says is that wmp11 is inactice and wont let me click connect....plz help..
