My speakers work fine, yet when I play music or video no sound comes out. When I turn the volume up high though, I can still hear the white noise. Do I need to reset my sound card?

What sort of sound card do you have???

    Is it on the motherboard???

    Or is it another card???

That's the thing. I have no idea. All I know is that the speakers work in other computers and media and they worked the first time I plugged them into mine. But the last time I restarted my computer, they no longer worked. And yes, I've since tested them and they work fine.

You tried looking at the settings in volume control?

Yes, first thing. Nothing is muted, all bars are up.

I'm not sure how to do that, which is why I'm posting here. Can you give me instructions?

Start > Right-Click on my computer > Manage > Device Manager > Sound, Video & Game Controllers.

Check to see if the correct audio device is enabled in your Audio panel in the control panel.
