Windows 11 Windows checking for update stucks

My Windows 11 is version 21H2. I want to update to the latest one.
I went into windows update and click check for update and it will just be checking forever. It is stuck.
Appreciate some advice.

Just use the installation assistant tp upgrade to the latest release, 23H2.

I would not wipe out the programs and apps I have already installed, right?

No. You'll be doing an in place upgrade.
