So i might be getting a 360 console that has a RR0D problem for £35 with all cables and attempt to do the X-Clamp Mod for fun.

Just wondering if anyone else has done it here, and was it succesfull?

hmm intresting,

This is how id do it,alot of people said it actualy works.

I asked the seller what exactly was the problem and this is what he said...

Works occasionally but more often than not it will not turn on, just get the 3 red rings on the power button and will not go any further.

That's the same method that I used.

Just a few tips for this,
1. when taking out the drives be sure to disconnect the sata port carefully. I ended up ripping out the attachment to the motherboard and had to solider in a new one. (facepalm)
2. When I took off the X clamps I had to use a flat head screw driver and some cardboard to try to pry it off. (not the best method at all but it works) The bottom one in the picture is the best way that I know of to get the clamps off.

3. In other how to's on this they mention that finding the proper tension for the screws is a bit hard to find. I just took them a half turn at a time in a cross pattern (to insure that it is level) till the screws were giving back a bit of tension when you are trying to tighten with 2 or 3 fingers.
4. If you get it all fixed and in a day or so it gets another RROD, check the thermal paste again. If the paste is still wet then it is likely that the screws were not tight enough.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any other questions and I would be happy to help!

I fixed my 360's RROD a different way, it's called the penny trick, and then you do the towel trick, works perfect now, maybe it's worth trying before you start doing this mod, it's very easy

The penny trick is ok but the towel method is not a good way to fix it. It works by reheating the thermal paste to the point that it reconnects the heatsinks to the gpu/cpu but in that process it heats the rest of your system in the process which can damage your motherboard and can even kill it for good.

Good to hear that you got it to work.

Well the guy who is selling the console said it plays or did play "Backup" games,so obviusly its been firmware modded or has a mod chip of some sort...im going to pass on it now,He reckons he never connected online because of this so it didnt get banned....Im not going to touch it now though,I want a legit system.

But im still going to keep my eye out for another cheap 360 with the RROD problem and see if i can fix it :)

the only known perma fix is to reball the gpu and cpu, xclamp may not be a perma fix, ive got a rrod system here already had the xclamp done now im trying the oven method

Never do the towel trick, or put it in the oven, it may temporarily fix it but when it crashes again you're likely to be left with a over-sized paper weight. The best way is to remove the X clamps and if you have to to, reball, but not by the oven. Look for "E74 fix" on Youtube and there is a few vids that show a way to reball by just removing the fan and turning the system on for 15-20 minutes and letting the system heat up. There's a specific way to do it, I just can't remember since I don't bother with trying to fix those systems anymore, usually doesn't hold up.

I currently have 2 xbox360's sat at home with different red rings, if you fancy fixing them for me xD ... I do want them back though lol...

From what I understand with the rrod is that it can be many things... How do you guys determine what is wrong with it?

I think I managed to find out that one of my xboxes has a dodgy DVD drive and the other was something to do with the motherboard (but I can't figure out what exactly).
