The new xbox 360 slim.Is it relly beter

I heard the older white & elites are no longer in production and theyre just making the new slims.I want to know what did they relly change?Are they still made in mexico?Besides the obvious new case design,All I heard about it is they added wifi,updated the cooling,& stoped the ring of death.I seen vids of it already overheating & doing the ring of death again.But they couldve purposely done it to make people go more towards ps3 & wii.I can get one for 200 right now.But I don't want to get it if its going to probly breakdown in a yr.I went through 6 xboxs,2 360s,& 1 elite.After the elite I pretty much gaveup on microsofts xbox.I relly do like xbox more then playstation,but it doesn't seem worth it when you got to have it repaired or replaced every year or so.

Frankly, if you've gone through 9 xbox systems over the years you probably should stop using them as bludgening devices - they're much better as game systems. (IE, you should REALLY find out WHY all these devices are dieing. Are you overheating them? Not surge protecting them? Etc?)

But in the end, its all the same hardware.

And a note: I've had the same Xbox 360 for I think 4 years now. Still running strong, one red ring but microsoft fixed it lickity-split for free.

I heard that to fix the RROD issue they just added better cooling, and a function to hard shut down the machine when it gets too hot.

Yeah they have improved the cooling,and The new CPU& GPU chip is built on a 45nm process technology.The first Xbox 360s were using 90nm processors (PowerPC) and 90nm GPUs (ATI Xenos) so the change to 45nm helps with it running cooler & more efficient.

To the OP,Id highly recommend you get the newer 360

I'm wondering about the wireles N. Is it the old wireles N or the new wireless N. The old wireles N ran at 150 the new wireless N runs at 300.
Does anyone know?

you're a special case, to only have one fail on you is lucky. most people i know have had 2,3, or 4 in my case. i had mine continually replaced right up until the 3 years ran out than i finally had to buy a new one. it's one of the poorest engineered gaming consoles to ever exist (the old model one).

But in the end, its all the same hardware.

Not an xbox gamer for this reason (rrod) personally looks wise i prefer the fat version of any console and reason why i bought the PS3 when it first came out over buying a 360 earlier is because i knew it had to be more reliable than the 360.

Perhaps I just know how to take care of my hardware and inform others the same. For example, two mates of mine in particular come to mind. The first has an original Xbox 360, day 1. It finally red ringed just about a month or so ago. Another mate had a gen2, still no red ring to this day.

All of our xbox's have been used religiously for hours on end each weekend with halo/game fests.

But, we never play with them standing up. We keep plenty of ventilation around the systems, and ambient temp is always a crisp 70. We travel with them protected to reduce jossling. And more.

I guess in the end what I'm trying to say is "its not luck" its "not being an absent minded with expensive equipment."

That's like saying I replaced a 7600gt with a HD 3650. One is newer, smaller and cooler core. But both are relatively the same hardware.

My main point being: You can't run new games. You can't run old games faster. Its not a new xbox.

dude, it has the highest failure rate for any gaming console to ever exist.. sure some people abuse them and don't take care of them properly, but it's mostly a case of poor engineering. the last survey that was taken put it at a 42% failure rate. the PS3 reports about an 8% failure rate and the wii is less than 1%. this is all on microsoft, they released a poorly designed product.

they at least addressed the issue somewhat by extending the warranty and implementing the jasper design in the old models. honestly though, the slim is what should have been released a couple years ago.

also i'm not sure how you can't agree that the hardware of the new 360 has seen a complete overhaul. it has smaller, cooler, and more efficient components. it's not meant to be microsofts next gen console, just a better (which is certainly is) xbox 360.

I agree with the guy above, you were a lucky case. Yeah some abuse their systems, but some don't do anything different than you. Microsoft even knows that their hardware was failure prone....why do you think they updated it in the first place??
