Steam Prices

Ya...I live in Germany. A typical steam game is 59 and some even 69 Euros. That is about $100 US! Games should be cheaper on Steam...all it does is download a file. There are no manufacturing costs...no shipping costs...no store costs. The games should be about half price from the store bought CD editions.

Steam is a complete rip off...I will never buy a game on Steam.
 
The only time that I buy from steam is when they have games for way lower than I could get it in stores. I got L4D2 for $7 a few days ago.
 
For new, full priced games, they will sometimes be pretty overpriced. However, Steam has some amazing deals every now and then and that is the only time I buy games from them. If you keep an eye out for good deals, you can get some awesome games for really cheap. The Holiday Sale is usually pretty good too.
 
I reckon steam prices have gone up. When I first got steam a few years ago, a new game on steam compared to a new game in the store was a big difference, now it is pretty much the same. As Scout said, no shipping or store costs etc, but maybe server costs, people to fix it etc etc.

But they do have good deals and I think it is pretty good since if you lose the disc... oh wait no disc to lose lol.
 
Yeah, steam do charge some insane prices for some games. But some of the deals are also insane! Like at Christmas (and at random points during the year) they will have like a week of really cheap games :). I usually compare prices everywhere before I buy a game so I can get it cheapest, but if I really want it and can't be arsed to go get it and it's on Steam im usually just like, screw it, lol, and buy it :)
 
Lets not forget Steam deals are only games they cannot get rid off so they have a sale like in the shops,i dont like Steam.
 
I thought they had some great games for sale during the "Perils Of Summer" period. I got L4D2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age: Origins, the two Monkey Island Special Editions etc. for way less than if I had bought them at a local store.

But they were, and still are, all massive sellers. Besides, I could happily wait a few months to get a game for a massive amount less, I mean now on Steam FO:NV is £30 (£25 on game when prordered rather than £35, same as steam ;)), give it a few months, like MW2 did, it will end up being on offer with a lot off. And notice MW2 and the dlc was on offer about a month ago, and when it was it was still in the list of most sold games.

I think in general, you are right, but they do have deals on games that are still selling pretty well
 
Steam are good,I like how it keeps your games Automaticly updated with the latest patchs and just how easy it makes things.

But i do think their prices are a bit high sometimes considering you can get a hard copy of the game from the store with free postage for the same price on most new games.
After all like mentioned there isn't any manufacturing costs such as CDs,casing and packaging etc, etc so why should they charge full price for a game.

I purchased Terminator Salvation a couple of months ago,It was £9.99 on steam,I got it from Amazon for £3 including free delivery!]

I feel sorry for the gamers out in Ausland,who have to pay way OTT for games.

Ehhh....I would tend to disagree.

Sure they aren't brand new games (nobody is going to have brand new games for 50% off so you can't view that as something bad about steam) but most of those games are relatively new and there are definitely a lot of people playing all of them.

At this very moment, there are 13,963 people playing L4D2 and it's the 6th most populated game on steam. MW2 was recently on sale and it is the 3rd most popular with over 50,000 players right now. By no means are these games "steam cant get rid of."

Im not saying every game they put on sale is awesome (because they do have a bunch of weird stuff for sale) but it is a broad and completely inaccurate generalization to say "deals are only games they cannot get rid off"

If you can wait a couple months or didn't pick up the game on opening night for some reason (wanted to see what reviews it got), steam deals can be pretty awesome.

Yeah but they are starting to catch onto that...I noticed it takes 3 years anymore for most games to hit $20 area or less. Unless it was truly horrible then its quick :P

Yea I've noticed that too, I mean take CoD4 as an example, that is still £20 over here. However, I bought it 2 years ago when it was on steam deal for £15 or something, and that was when they were still after £35 for it or something, so even the games which are high on price will be on offer at some point with in 6 months of them being released, making them somewhere near the price they should be, if only for a week
