How use HDD for a CD

My computer doesn't have a DVD drive, so I copied the DVD to an external hard drive. The copy worked, and I installed it to my computer, but it still needs the DVDROM to play the game. Is there a way to make the game think that the external HDD is a DVD?

The game is Supreme commander.

Just create an image of the file that you have in the HDD, mounting the image will solve the problem.

I'm was gonna do that, but I've got so much money poured in to this darn computer....

How do you do that?

Can use a program such as PowerISO or MagicISO and I believe Alcohol 120% can also do it. There is another way but sadly its a touchy area for this forum and we like to stay within the realm of 100% legal.

As long as he physically has the discs, i don't see a problem. Most of those burning programs will allow you to install a virtual drive, where you mount the image.

However some DRM such as SecuROM may not let the game run.

Not always.,To be honest i agree with johnb35...you can get DVD-RW for next to nothing these days,On ebay theyre only like £15 and you wont have to go through all that hastle.

Use your DVD burner to create an image, I use NERO Startsmart for it, just choose the option of image rather than burning the disc, when image is created you can use it on any PC which doesn't have an optical drive.
To mount the image, use DAEMON tools, it creates a virtual drive and you can finally run your game.
