Call of Duty Black Ops Issues

Hey guys

just bought CoD: BO today, and its not working right

PC specs are in my sig

i updated GFX drivers, steam downloaded updates aswell... twice

basically what is happening is that the frames are choppy, and the sound is chopping as well

this is at the main menu. as soo as you start the game, that opening movie skit it works, then as the game starts again (in bar) it starts chopping again

what could be the issue?

this has pissed me of fto no end, cause i just dropped alot of money on this game ($71 im in South Africa, shits expensive here)

I had an issue with BF Bad Company 2, with everytime it shows a movie skit, i had bad sound (voice sounded far and soft etc etc)

any help will do.

please guys, i need to sort this out quickly, before i break my PC...

and also, why the F*** are games using steam. its the biggest BS thing i have seen in my life... they should make it an optional download, not the only way to play... cause the rest of the world (SA for example) still pays per gig of internet used, so it sucks that i have to DL so much, and that i can play the game without the updates. and when i do update 200mb worth of stuff, and hte game still doesnt work, it really ticks me off

what is your cpu usage?

i had my E6750 pinned to full load when overcloked 3.2ghz gaming with bad company 2, i was getting crap fps and it was all choppy and shit.

Well black Ops is plagued with lag/stuttering issues atm even on the highest end systems you can get it runs like crap,so i wouldnt blame your pc just yet for that,However BC2 really likes a Quad Core and considering your system only has 2gb of ram and a Dual core im betting thats where your problem lies.

Id overclock your Dual core a bit more if possible, get an extra 2gb of ram....your graphics is strong thats fine.

Okay listen. I did this for a friend on his computer with the game. In the game folder where the user profiles are, there will be a config file (.txt or .cfg i forget) so open it up with notepad.

You will want to search for "r_multigpu" "r_multithreaded_device", "sys_configureGHZ" and "sys_sysMB"

You want to change the multi-gpu entry to 0, multithreading to 1, find the cpu speed one and edit it to your cpu speed (in GHZ) and for the ram one you will want to edit it to the amount of ram you have (in MB)

File > save as > config.cfg (make sure it's set to all files not text files when you save)

Next step: Lock the file to read-only. Launch the game. It will come up with 2 messages asking about auto-detecting. click NO on both of them.

Should run much better.

tried it. no message for auto detecting

a little smoother, but still laggin bad, sound is still stuttering

Useless thread. Try steam forums, 95% of people is having low fps and stuttering, no way to fix it. Bad programming from Treyarch.....

im sure they will patch it soon?

i hate when they focus on consoles and leave PC out to dry...

so basically im stuck with this?

im gonna try on my brothers computer, he has a better PC (i5, 4 gigs DDR3 etc etc) but he has a 9800GT

wont be bad, but lets see if he can handle it

I get 60 fps with vsync on. Thats 2xAA, low AF, normal textures at 1680/1050

i5 750
4GB DDR3
GTS 250

that doesnt help me

on the last CoD (MW and MW 2) i got 150+

i just dont understand it...

i read that they coded it terribly

my CPU usage is at 100%, so i htink what they say (about them not coding it right) is correct

You just answered your own question, until they eventually update it to work as it should have done from the day of release, you will be stuck with a choppy, laggy game

yeah, but i only found out after i bought the game

i just read the review on gamespot, and thought sweet, ill go for it...

that sucks so hard

It''s like GTA IV. needs a quadcore.

However, I suspect the developer coded it badly to make it seem demanding, as if it's a true pc game :P

Or they just royally screwed up.

i think they royally screwed up

I play Crysis on Ultra High with no issues... same with BF: BC2

so this cant be THAT demanding can it?

hmmm, linkin, i tried your thing again, but i change multiGPU back to normal (as my GTX295 is dual GPU)

worked like a charm! get the occasional mini stall (few milliseconds) but very playable!!!

Nice work :)

Out of curiosity, when you alt tab the game and go back to it, does it lag at about 4fps for a few seconds and go back to normal? that is one thing that happened and I couldn't fix.

yeah it does... but i can live with that...

i have another issue now... it started lagging again, and the settings are exactly as i left them yesterday...

WTF is going on?

i swear if i see anyone related to to treyarch or activision/blizzard, im kicking them where it hurts most...

hmmm, it stil doesnt work... keep trying the config changes and they dont work, trying stock, nothing...

what ive noticed is that everytime i enter the game, it always resets the sys_configureGHZ and sys_sysMB

whats happening?

Did you make sure to lock the file to read only? (right click > properties > read only) and click NO to both the auto-config messages when you launch the game?

I had this problem too on my friend's computer too, I think.

Best to make a backup of the edited config and replace it when the game resets it (make the backup read only too)
