Anyone playing (Beta) Star Wars.. The Old Republic?

Wondering what it is like and if it is worth swapping from my current MMO to it.

Any Suggestions?

What MMO are you currently playing?

It is fun. I played the past weekend of it. The gameplay reminds me of WoW/Rift/LotRO in a Star Wars theme with a story. The story stuff is neat. Just about every quest/etc you have options. You can do right, neutral or give the person a hard time. At times results in robbing them/killing them etc. Definitely super fun.

I didn't get to the level of mid-game or anything, but it looks promising. If you end up planning to play let me know! Be a joy to play together etc.

WoW right now. I really enjoy guild, raids and such.. Like PVP as well. Does it have raid type events?

From my understanding, there will be raid type events. Unsure how they are ran as of yet. I haven't played incredibly far into that game. Not wanting to waste a lot of my time on a beta, and not wanting to ruin the story.

There are already guilds formed as well on there site so that it is pretty set when you hop in the game. Several have 100's of members already.

PVE/PVP/RP servers etc just like about every other MMO.

The build right now is pretty solid though. Didn't run into any bugs when I played. It does release this month though, so that is to be expected. Servers didn't crash at all or anything though when I played, and this past weekend was their stress test. So it's looking good.

I got into the beta a few months ago, I've played it a few times since. I've cancelled my pre-order.

LucasArts is going to ruin it like they did SWG. It's a generic mmo with very little original content, it's nowhere near ready for launch either. The UI is awful, the voice acting is awful which sucks because there's tons of audio. The quests are boring and generic, the classes are boring and generic. It's nothing special by any means.

This is honestly the first Bioware game I can say I've played that I thought was bad. Problem is LucasArts is awful and has total control over everything. They're about as stubborn as you can get and never learn from their mistakes. Just look at the fiasco that was SWG and how all the people responsible for that games problems are still in their same positions. They don't listen to their customers at all, they'll do whatever they please with the game. It's a damn shame too because I can't even begin to tell you guys how much I was looking forward to TOR.

That's interesting, other than the superb voice acting , I really haven't heard anything bad about the game. In the little you played, what was the grind like?

The voice acting in the trailers and stuff they released was great, but the in game intro, the class videos, and the cut scenes in game were god awful.

Generic point A to point B, kill bad guy, rinse and repeat,or go here, kill a million NPCs until they drop 5 totally insignificant items, rinse and repeat.

Most quests are instanced as well and a lot of them have player limits so that you're forced to do them alone.

And fwiw I played it more than I made it sound like I did.

An MMO that consists of mostly instanced content should not be subscription based. I said hold your breath for GW2, that is the MMO with promise. SWTOR looks like a single player game with little MMO elements tossed throughout. Also, I just have a feeling there won't be sufficient end game and they will force you to reroll for any new content like all Bioware games.

This appeared to be the case from what I saw. I was mainly only interested in PVP, but from looking at the classes it's not looking good for that either.

I've got a years sub to WoW anyway and a free copy of Diablo 3 so that'll keep my busy for a while anyway. I'll likely check TOR out again 6 months or so after launch to see how it's doing, but from the looks of it it's going to be a big disappointment.

Don't get me wrong, I like WoW.. Just ready for some type of change to get me through until next expansion.

But I dont want to waste money on a game if it is single player content. No purpose in that... I'll just buy an non subscription game if I want that.

I havent had much time to look into classes and such, but seems like they are all variations of DPS roles.... Is this the case or is there a Tank/Healer class?

There are tank classes iirc, but healing might as well not have existed. There are healer type classes, but imo they aren't truly healing classes. More like DPS with a few heals.

Until an MMO comes out where I feel like it's more than fetch, kill, or deliver x1000 I'll be saving my money.

They need to develop a more dynamic system with the quests. Where killing someone matters in some way.

I noticed that myself when I looked at the different classes.. Nothing looked like a dedicated healer.

With no REAL healer class, are the fights just less technical and more of a "Tank and Spank" event?

I didn't get into pvp when I played, but it seemed like they're just be a dps burst. It's not conducive to pvp guilds because you can't que as a team.

My overall impression of it is they spent WAY too much time hyping it and putting too much into the cutscenes and tried to wing the actual gameplay while copying WoW, but not in a good way.

In the 8 years I spent playing SWG I got a pretty good sense of how LucasArts runs everything and how stifling they can be. I have a really good feeling this games problems are going to come from them, not Bioware which sucks because this game had a ton of potential and I was really, really looking forward to it.

I like it a lot. But I was never a WOW or KOTR player so everything is new to me. Its a ton of fun but the leveling seems slower than the story. Every boss gets harder and harder compared to my current lvl. This could be because I suck.

I have zero experience playing in teams yet. Seems like that's where all of the fun is.
