Would a PC from 2003 still be adequate?

Hi everyone, I'm gonna take a slightly different approach to the standard "will this work" question.

I'm not even close to being a computer whiz, in fact all the technical terms I hear go right over my head. All I can tell you folks is that I received a very good gaming PC from my family back in 2003, and it was great for playing counter-strike and star wars galaxies.

My question is, without having named any part in the PC, would this PC be able to run the new MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic?

basically I don't know how much things have changed in the computer world and I need to know if the computer is fine, or if its awful now. don't worry about the specs of it, just tell me if "great parts" in 2003 are still good now :)

Haha thanks. So VASTLY outdated? Or it would run poorly? Or not at all because anything back then is terrible now?

I've been speaking to a techie friend about buying his gaming pc. Trying to figure out (with no pc knowledge whatsoever) if it'd be cheaper to upgrade parts on mine or pick up his.

For $400, his pc has:
3.2 ghz quad core processor
8 gb ram
160x2 gb hdd in RAID
Ati 6770 1 gb vid card
Xfi-fatality sound card
Windows 7 pro 64 bit
Liquid cooling

Considering I'm trying to game and play star wars the old republic, is that an ok setup or is it actually really good? Is 400 a good deal? I trust the guy, but he could easily sell me a terrible pc without me knowing. All this the stuff might as well be in Russian.

I would pick up his if it comes with an OS, the 6770 is a solid card for gaming, it wont max much at 1080 but it is solid none the less.

And liquid cooling is a massive bonus. Just make sure everything runs smoothly.

SHouldnt matter too much but just check what quad core it is. And make sure it is definately a quad core. But if it is at 3.2ghz ( i presumes non overclocked) i would assume somehting fairly modern. Athlon x4, maybe first gen i5. In which case pc would be great. I mean if this comp is for gaming even a core2quad would do :P

Brand, speed, type and model of RAM?
160GB HDD's are probably IDE.
Brand and model of power supply?

For $400 and the above questions answered, it may or may not be a good deal.

i'd have to look into all those answers for you, but this is his own personal gaming PC and apparently the pieces are all new. he said he has the boxes are receipts to prove they're actually all about a month old.

i guess i'm gonna go ahead and pick it up since my old pc is outdated. seems like a fair enough deal. i'll get back to you folks with those answers though just to see what you guys think :)
 
If the drivers are in a RAID0 stripe I'm going to guess they're SATA, some boards had IDE RAID but most of the newer boards do not have IDE RAID, only SATA, I'm guessing it's a newer board because he mentioned the 8GB RAM.
 
i doubt anyone would sell a rig with 2 160gb ssd's in raid 0, and if their about a month old, those things alone would be worth what he's asking and then a nice chunk on top of that.
