- Nine entries were submitted this week. Each thumbnail corresponds to a voting choice. They are assigned numbers in no particular order. Please vote for what you feel is the best image.

- The votes are public so it will be clear to the adjudicator whether someone has voted for their own image.

- I will leave this thread stickied for 48 hours, but unlocked. Feel free to to discuss the merits of this week's entries, and the competition in general. Just a reminder, no hinting or 'biggin' up' from the entrants.

This week's task brief was "Alien Encounter"

Hee

I was deciding between 5 and 7 and in the end I leaned more towards number 5, because I think it was the best in terms of graphical skill. I also liked the last one because it resembles an aurora. Well done to all :)

There are a lot of choices here...
Yup, I should mention there will only be a max of 10 per week now. I've added the rule that only the first ten will be accepted each week, this being mainly because I can't create a poll with more than 10 options. One added benefit though, is that it's not going to get much harder to choose a winner than it is at the moment. :P

The quality of entries is superb. There's a lot of talent amongst us.

Well, unfortunately I didn't send my picture in on time, so I'm not entered this week.

#1. Nice idea, I like the flying saucers, they add a bit of "realism" to the UFO feel. The only thing I dislike about it is the number on the ground (Halo 3 symbol?). Good Job.

#2. Again, nice idea. This one has some good effects, but isn't as polished as the others. Keep up the good work.

#3. I like this one. Its a little hard to understand whats going on (perhaps it could be a dream), but the overall quality is good.

#4. Great layering. The shrapnel and pieces of the spaceship are placed nicely and the filtered sky looks good. My only suggestion is that the washed out color could be corrected, but otherwise one of my favorites.

#5. This one looks like a first person shooter, and the layout is done well. I like the lighting, especially around the falling stars, but some places are a little too dark. A little brightening around the alien would make it "pop out" at you more.

#6. I like it. This was one of my ideas when I began to work on my picture. I like the idea of an asteroid hitting the earth. It seems a little smooth, but still a good job.

#7. One of my favorites, the realism is something I always like. It looks like it could have been a snapshot taken by a bystander as the aliens attack a town. My suggestion would be to use the brightness/contrast tool to make all the layers have the same color.

#8. Nice work. This one looks a little busy for my taste, but for what you were trying to do, it turned out well. Other than a few of the layers looking a bit blurry, it is overall a good job.

#9. Very cool lighting. I like the way the whole picture looks, but I don't think it has enough of an "Alien Encounter" feel to it, so I'll pass my vote. The photoshoppng was good though.

Overall, I'm impressed. After more than doubling our entries from last week, this competition looks like its popular enough to go on for a long time. My vote goes to Entry #4 followed by number #7.

Good Job to everyone!

Also, if anyone would like to see the picture that I didn't enter in time, here it is:

Why are you guys posting more pics that you made? The competition entering is already over, so lets stick with the ones that are here.

They like to make pictures, maybe? Its a fun thing to do, and it doesn't affect the competition at all.

While other people posting pics they have made is ok, perhaps they could focus attension on the ones we have a give some feedback (and vote)...if they can do both then great!
