greetings,
my brother has the 1st game of risk that came out on disc. that cd/dvd(?) does not play on anything above win me (apparently). has the original manufacturer of the (first) risk game on cd issued a patch or similar so that that particular version of risk can be run/utilized on xp?..(i know that there is another version of risk on cd that followed and i am not interested in that version)....i have very little info on the game and i am not a "gamer". don't hold me to this but, i believe that maybe "hasbro(?) made the first version on cd and i also heard that the company was sold off........thanks for any help you can give!

I'm not sure about a patch, a Google search should help you there.

I'm wondering if perhaps running the game in compatibility mode might help. Right click on the games executable (the shortcut) and click on properties. You will see a tab called "Compatibility" Then put a check mark beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose windows 95 to start (not sure when that game came out). Then click on "apply" then "OK".

Good luck.

...thanks for the reply. i spoke with my brother long distance a few hours ago and he informs me that the disc doesn't complete or very much start the installation process. so, unless the game was installed, i wouldn't know how to access the "compatability" mode section of the diisc...

Ahhhhh, I wondered about that. Well you can install a game with compatibility mode also. I believe it was Quake 2 that I had to do this with. It would not install otherwise.

What you have to do is... Put the CD into the drive, open the directory then find the install .exe. You then hold the cursor over the executable then drag it onto the desktop (drag it with the left mouse button held, not the right), once you release the left mouse button, a menu will appear. You want to click on "create shortcut", You then follow my first set of instructions to set the install to run in "compatibility mode". Double click on the new shortcut and hopefully the game will start to install.

Edit:

While in the CD directory you can also left click on the install .exe and choose "send to", then desktop (create shortcut). This places a shortcut onto your desktop without the drag and drop method.
