FEAR Trouble...

I have been playing FEAR for about 4months on my desktop. I decided to install it on my new laptop. Well, installed it and everything went fine. Went to run the game and an error message pops up saying "FEAR has encountered a problem and needs to close". I uninstalled and installed the game several times and same message is encountered.

Any help? Has anyone encountered this problem before???

My system specs for my laptop are listed below. I meant all requirements to run the game on my laptop. Checked it out on systemlab.

When that happened on the desktop a pair of times lately it was due to having a program running in the background. Once the program was put on hold the problem disappeared immediately. Often any antivirus or firewall program running has to be closed during gaming to prevent those from interferring. Take a note of what else is installed on the portable there.

As always, install all the latest drivers and game patches :). Could you mention what the error message said?

I've run both the original and expansion pack(Extraction Point) without even having the latest ATI update on. But that's with the desktop here. Even the latest drivers for the sound are still waiting for my effort to throw those on. But patches and keeping sound as well as video updated would be one thing to consider. The other is examining the processes running showing what is active.

i have all drivers and direct x up to date...

i'm currently downloading the updated patchs for the game... can't believe I forgot that... i will get back with an answer on if the patch worked or not..

thanks everyone...!

Hope it goes well. Just be sure to look at what you have running in the background when going to start the game again. Also remember that the game runs with the disk left in the drive.

updated the patchs... still, same problem presides.

this is the error message...

The old "kernel32.dll" error being seen again! That is one of the most annoying driver issues to deal with at times. I know how you feel. ruf! ruf! grrrrr...! Need an old remedy? http://aumha.org/win4/a/kernel32.htm

One place to try and repair the dll errors on your laptop is the free scan at http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?kernel32 remember those words about firewall, antivirus, and other programs interferring with games?

Someone with Kaspersky ran into the same thing. http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t20368.html

Fortunately Microsoft developed their own patch for problems seen after installing the latest updates. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924867/en-us

thank you PC eye....! that solved the problem!

Was it one or more of those? That would be a good thing to know which one was the cure there since others may run smack into the same dilemna.

I used the registry scan, then the Microsoft patch in sequence. That ended up solving the problem. So i can't tell you which individual solution worked. Sorry.

NOTE: When I downloaded the updates for FEAR, it didn't help out the problem.

Thanks for your help!

It may have been the combination rather then just one. That's always a possibility. Downloading the patches certainly didn't hurt anything since you now have the game running anyways.
