LAN games so it doesnt get boring

UT2004 (Demo is Free), Fear Combat (Free), Battlefield 2142 Demo (Free), Company of Heroes (great RTS) the mutliplayer demo is out I think... Many other demos are great for LAN's cus they're free.

Mmm.
Thanks
I already have the full version of 2142
fear combat ill look into that.

Cause I want the LAN to go from 12-9 and be action packed lol.

Thanks

Some tips for better LAN's.

1. Have them arrive 1 hr before start time so everyone is ready to go and not setting up. Make sure to send out an email or a phone call reminding them of what to bring. Headphones, power strips, and power cords are often overlooked.

2. A plan for food. Pizza or something else. Either everyone chips in or something. Most people won't think of food.

3. Ensure you have all patches and updates for games being played on a CD. This saves a lot of time. I'd even throw the latest ATI and NVIDIA drivers on there.

4. You might want everyone to disable firewall settings when they boot up. It can save time and headaches to connect with each other even over a LAN.

5. Ensure you have desigated areas for people to sit and plug into. Yet again common sense but you'd be suprised. Be prepared to have to babysit someone or some noob who just can't figure it out =P.

6. Have fun. :D

Thanks Grey.

This is my first LAN and I am making sure everything will go right.
If not then...I ll be prepared.
I have alot of time to prepare a website *having trouble* a server *trouble on the OS*
and everything else will fold out after those two things work.

Again, Thanks

uh XP home or Pro is usually the most stable right now. Everyone I know uses XP Pro still. I'm sure Vista would work well with XP Pro and Home. :P

Great tips! Pretty much explained what I had in mind. Rise of nations is a good game for lan parties, as is command and conquer!

One way to keep it interesting is computer pranks. here go some old but classics

Tape the optical sensor on the bottom of their mouse

take a screen shot of their desktop and set it as their background, then drag all the icons off the screen. It looks just like their desktop but nothing works

Use the registry hack to disable them from changing their wall paper, then put a really bad wall paper up - something like the backstreet boys or nsync or whatever.

if file sharing is enabled copy the same song or file randomly to their computer over and over and over again, this can get gross if porn is involved

Edit their system sounds, make it so when it boots up instead of the standard windows sound it yells I am a big douche bag or something funny

Swap keyboard when they are not looking and start typing weird messages to their computer

things like that can keep it fun, well as long as everyone you hang out with can take a joke. some people are a bit high strung and get mad, but if they are cool it can be a blast. I have had all of these pulled on me, and I have pulled them on other people.

Good tips Grey. I showed up at my friends small LAN party once and 1 out of 5 computers were working...I ended up fixing them all which took about 2 hours. The firewall tip is a great one, even though we all set CoH to be allowed, Zone Alarm still wouldn't let us see each other PC's through LAN.

As for some great LAN games well, if you all have kick ass PC's then it's always fun to do Coop on Doom III, or FEAR, Half Life 2 etc. and try to beat them. It's always funner playing main game with someone else.

Basically just pick some games you all like, because most games support LAN.

Thanks.
If some one else brings a 360 we can have GoW matches along with Halo2 matches.

I have to read xbox lan tips to.
I reserved a book and it came in today on. Hosting the ultimate frag fest, how to host a lan party book.

Thumbing through it...It looks like it covers EVERYTHING and more

So...

Thanks

I don't think Doom 3 has multiplayer, and neither does the full version of FEAR.

*Blinks* I hate to sound mean, but have you ever played the games? BOTH doom3 and fear have multiplayer, in fact, you can download the fear multiplayer for free.

So....

What do i need to get
www.hl2ctf.com up and running?
I downloaded the client one and.. well ... dont know what to do now.

Thanks

Am i going to have to purchase another copy of CSS for my hosting computer? Just to host it?

I have the old version, but with the new one surly you just run the .exe and it installs it for you. In the old version you had to go to C:\program files\steam\steameapps\sourcemods\ and put it there.
