Hi, I am trying to X-Men Children Of The Atom for the PC. This game is very old. It came out for windows 95. I cant seem to install this. I am running on windows Xp SP2. Is there a way to play this game on XP if the game is for windows 95? Let me know. thanks

For 95 on XP? Might as well say "rest in peace" to that old one! I wish I could get the original Duke3D running even through DOSBox! Yet the original 8bit dos version runs with sound coming through the 5.1 speakers and not the little one on the board.

The link there shows how to use the right click menu seen on the desktop shortcut once a program is installed. Getting an old installer to run may require a virtual machine.

so the game dont work? what is DOS anywayz?

The first versions of Windows were merely manually started large desktop applications used to privide an easy user interface. In other words Windows is the Graphical User Interface that saves time and is far easier for people to learn how to use! The term "dos" is short for "Disk Operating System". There you have to type in every command manually with whilte text on a black screen on later systems with vga not CGA which was amber. The closest thing now to a dos prompt snce Fat was replaced completely with NTFS is a command prompt still available for typing manual commands even in Vista. One example is seen here.

A game that old probably won't work on XP SP2, there's a lot of security features that interfere with games that old. I have one that I used to love, but can't play anymore, either... :(

I tried Duke3D through the virtual DOSBox window where you mount the old dos/95 game on a virtual dos drive and the game froze as soon as the first game map finished loading. Yet some older versions of the same only 8bit not 16bit with the old sound card configurations for SB and other cards worked there due to being far more simple in structure. The images seen at these linkes are screens from the Duke Nukem and Nukem2 8bit versions.

You may see better results trying out the free DOSBox program with the one there. It's requires a few steps like entering the "mount C: C:\game folder" type command. Afterwards you will see "Z:>" where you enter "Z:>C:" and press enter to then see the "C:>" prompt and simply enter the name of the game's executable. The game folders for this example were copied intact to the hard drive. There were no installers for those oldies!
