problem with battlefield 2

hiya, folks.
i got a legit copy of bf2 the other day, and im having trouble finding servers for online play. for some reason, the vast majority of the servers are highlighted in red, and when i click on them, it says im running an older version than the server, but i have downloaded and installed the newest patch, v1.4. does anybody know of any newer versions, mods, or patches i need to install?

note: i installed the mods Hard Justice v1.1 (1.2d is downloading as i type) and Highway Tampa Final. for some reason, highway tampa does not show up as a mod...

try reinstalling the patch and restarting ur computer, that should do it, but i got banned from punk buster for no reason, and so i downloaded battlfeild 2 demo and most maps with punkbuster dosnt let me use vista, i didnt download the patch for the demo though heh
 
well you see the problem is that you downloaded the wrong patch; you see you have to download patch 1.41 and not 1.4 highway tampa and other mods have nothing to do with the servers that will show up secondly unblock battlefield 2 on any antivirus you have and not just bf2 but every executable file you have in your install dir.
 
Was it the "Complete" collection? you have to let it install ALL the packs... i think this was my problem but i can't remember the exact cause but i did fix it. If your on vista disable UAC in user accounts, maybe your firewall is blocking it? Wish i could remember what fixed it!

i am running it on XP. i seem to remember that in BF1942, you had to install some earlier patches in order for the newest patch to work. you think thats the case here as well?

also, in the top righthand corner of the menu screen, there are some numbers that look like the version #. it goes something like 1.1xx.xxx.xxx, so if im right, the 1.4 patch isnt engaged.

does anybody know where i can find v1.21, or a complete patch that will update from 1.1 to 1.4?

edit: i finally found a site to dld v1.2 (gamespot.com), but it it uber slow- 10kbps for 350mb...

When you load the game, it will tell you the version below where you log in. Make sure that says v1.4 as well. I believe there is a 1.41 patch out now.

ya, i know theres a 1.4 patch, and i have installed it...twice. it still tells me its 1.1. also, the 1.4 patch is shown as a mod for some reason, but when i activate it, its still running as 1.1.

edit: i checked and youre right, there is a 1.41 patch, and im dlding it right now. lets hope that fixes it.

ok, thanks. im installing 1.41 right now...it takes forever. i think this will fix it...i didnt realize that there was a 1.41, so thats prolly what screwed me up. anyhow, thanks for all the help, guys :D

edit: patch 1.41 is installed and now i can access most servers. turns out it was my ignorance after all. thanks again for the help!!

I think the sames happening to me. When i try to play 2142 wether its patch 1.25 or 1.40 it says no error when i get in the game. Just pops up and says punkbuster. How do i fix this? I have never hacked or anything like that and id like to continue playing 2142....

ahh, sounds like you need to update PB. i know how to do this in Americas Army, but i dont know about BF2142. then again, it might update automatically... does anyone else know?
 
Wait! are you using the play BF2 online now icon!?

I just remembered this was my problem, you have to use the "Battlefield 2" icon.... try that! it might fix it lol

lol thanks, but i got it working, and no, i put the Play BF2 Online icon in my "crap" folder.

No thats the thing....iv updated the game, I even downloaded a few apps from punkbuster to repair and stuff...the problem is the Two processes that run. pnkbstA and B... B doesnt want to stay open. I think thats why im being booted. I read something saying you must now have both open. Iv check msconfig Iv done admin tools, Services.....nothing. I cant get this fixed....i dont think im the only one either...i was doing more reading and found a nasty thred about EA and PB tons of people complaining about the same issue. I dont think EA has addressed this. Weird thing is i was playing fine 2 days before, i skipped a day of playing now i cant get it to work...iv reinstalled iv done everything i can think of. If anyone knows anything about this. Plz tell me.:(
