Game junkies?

We guys spent a lot of time playing computer games. I'd rather say we sometimes can live in a computer world playing all day (and often night) long. I used to have a some kind of game addiction way back like a lot of my friends had. I remember those days than my parental units were telling me all the time 'what the heck are you playing these games all the time?, you'd better do something real - study, work, sport etc.' :)
Sure you can easy guess what I was against to stopping playing :)
I got even myopia that days because of PC games :(
Anyway many folks believe that to be a computers gamer is not better than to be a junkie, because often you can't stop playing and you can't live without it.
Do you encounter the same problem I had? Are your parents, girlfriends against your gaming?

I have a large stock of games, but i cant play long... maybe about 1 1/2 hours is the longest i can play at a time, it just gives me a headache lol. Im not a big gamer...

It was completely impossible for me to play only 1 hour a day if I was too engrossed. You can't even go through some levels this time :)
3-5 hours a day were ok :)
I know some people playing online games who play much more than 3-5 hours a day

Indeed, Think the most Ive ever played was when the 1st Halo game come out. Me and my mates spent the best part of two days playing it. I can see how people can get hooked into playing games and yeah too much is a bad thing. Have played a bit of WoW but got board to quickly of it (not really my type of thing) more of a FPS person myself.

1st Halo game

I'm so sad I've never played that thing. I'm the greatest fan of Unreal2 though never played Halo. As far as I know Halo is very close to Unreal2 in many ways.

Could you people tell me how do you pronounce the abbreveations like these: SATA, PATA, INS, OVR, .XLS, .BMP and so on?
Do you either spell it out (P-A-T-A, I-N-S) or prounounce it like this would be the one word (Pata, Insert)?

It all depends from person to person.

I use the abbreviations, but in person I usually just say "Serial-ATA" and so on.

I've heard SATA pronounced "Say-ta". I figured I'd try phonetically. Not sure about PATA. My guess would be "Pay-ta" (rhymes with data?)

The only other one I could guess on would be BMP. I've never heard it called anything else other than "Bitmap". Same with JPEG. Never heard anyone call it anything other than J-Peg. Then you have GIF. I've heard it called gif (like a gift), or Jiff (like the peanut-butter).

I'd have to say that for the most part, people just call things what they are, and abbreviate things when it comes to typing.

Well, I'm an adult so my parents can't say anything. When I did have a gf she didn't say anything. Besides, no one can stop me from precious CSS.

oh yes. i used to be very addicted to games and a couple months ago i stopped - now im happier than ever.

Thanks a lot.
However it can be hard from time to time to guess what the correct pronunciation variant is.
E.g. you pronounce 'EST' (Eastern Standart Time) as a one word but pronounce NBA as abbreviation. Though they are both abbreveations :)

The most difficult thing is to stop. Some people can not do this. Though should they? That is the question the aswer to I don't know.
I believe this time will come when our world will turn into the matrix like in the movie and we all will be living in a computer world :)

i believe that gaming can be productive, to an extent. it can teach you how to overcome intellectual problems, use hand-eye coordination, work with 12 year old pre-pubescent brats on halo, and still have time to go pee. but after all that, there is a point, where gaming can be a burden on your life, say you have work, but you told your pal that you would be on css tonight you dont wanna be the guy to bring down the party, so you usually choose play over work, besides, play is more fun. my ideal day would be working, eating, doing my business, and then at 3AM its time for the pwnage
