i have a question about RTS genre

is there any that deal with modern combat? i tried warcraft and i didnt really like it because i had to deal with farming and gold and all that.. i just want a game where all you do is command troops.
 
sudden strike is a ww2 but its good if your not interested in building or collecting gold/money because you just start we troops and an objective and you get reinforcements
 
Company of heroes is WW2, close to modern. It's awesome, but it has alot of the standard RTS fare.. If OP is looking for a completely modern game, that does away with all the "boring" RTS crap, he should look no farther than World In Conflict. It was just released, like last month to great reviews, and I played the demo and it rocked.

look out for any of the command and conquer games. you build a base, build your army, destroy. It's modern, if not somwhat futuristic, and it's a great game. The more recent ones would be c&c3:tiberium wars, red alert 2 and c&c generals
 
C&C 3 is very modern, you have to harvest Tiberium, but other than that it's just a bunch of base building and then crush your enemies!!! If you can get over the bad graphics by today's standards, Starcraft is still, imo, the best RTS game out there. Plus, you can buy the game with the expansion for about $20.
