What operating system are you running? The Semprons are nice processors, they're perfect for light gaming, internet and office. Also fast in XP and Vista.

Im not been sarcastic, I do like AMD Sempron processors for light work. My AMD Sempron 64 3100+ Socket 754 runs Vista nice and smooth with Aero.

Nah, not being sarcastic at all, our family alltogether has had about 3 sempron PC's and they all have worked great proc'wise

not that the 6400+ isnt a good cpu but doesnt the 90nm make it run really hot and kinda throws oc'ing out the window

I went from a 3.3Ghz X2 5600+, to what i have now.. I'll never go back (though the 5600+ was a good cpu, and performer, and i do think they are under rated)

But Intel, is by far the best right now.

i dont want to get a new mobo, and cant overclock(emachine)and am2+ and am2 are backwards compatible. im looking at around 150...

yeah intel is on top right now, but since were only looking at amds i would have to recommend the 5600+ or the 5000+ BE i'd go with the 5000+ because its arguably the best price/performance amd has right now at $82 US and its the most overclockable amd probably. i have mine at anywhere between 2.8-3.3ghz (2.6ghz stock) and it runs wayyyy cooler than the 6400+ and 6000+.

I have had only used one amd, and it was slow. That, is because my first laptop from '06 was $600, and was a compaq. But, that may be the only reason I like intel. I still like intel.

AMD is OK. I had my x2 paired with a nice mobo, a 590SLI. And i have them sitting here right beside me all boxed up :p

I have a question for those who are saying AMD processors are good for budget builds:

How do you respond to the fact that Intel's Celeron Dual-Core and Pentium Dual-Core lines outperform, cost less, use less energy, and create less heat than comparable AMD processors?

It would seem to me that the only conceivable reason to buy an AMD processor is to support them in an effort to avoid an Intel monopoly.

so your trying to instigate an explosive argument between amd and intel fanboys?

i like my amd athlon x2 5000+ for the price/performance and its only slightly behind the core2 duo e6600 pcwizard 08 benchmarks at least. not to mention amd was on top during intel pentium days, and if people have good experience with amd why switch?

A great reason to go AMD in a budget build is if you aren't an overclocker. Stock for stock AMD beats the above processors at the different price points. Also it is considerably easier to find a reliable, good enough AMD mobo for cheaper than the same for Intel.

Kind of off-topic, but I would never in my worst nightmare buy a Celeron. Would you?
