online pc shooter

i've gotten to a place where playing WoW 7 days a week just is a major bore.
so, ive decided to return to my roots and get some kind of shooter. im looking for something that isnt very dependent on teamwork or vehicle use. if youve ever played goldeneye, perfect dark, or socom, those are what im looking for.

so far, is seems like CS:S or BF2 are my best options, but i dont know how active those games are anymore.

cliffnotes: i need a good, active online PC shooter without much dependency on teamwork

Id say CSS over BF2.
Well...IDK. BF2 is awesome cause you get the vehicals n such but CSS imo is better as just a shooter.

I think COD4 would work on the comp in your sig.
TF2 is sorta not as serious making it fun in a different sorta way. (not quite sure how to explain it).

EDIT: not much experience with TF2 but i think it needs a little teamwork .

Nah nah nah...AA sux! bf2 is kinda boring... cod4 is too repedative.. cs-s is fun but has nothing to do with teamwork (most of the time) and Red orchestra is just the way to go if you want teamwork and realism with vehicles and all...the point of the game is usualy to gain ground or blow up stuff but the gameplay varies so greatly... checkl it out!

He said he didnt want to have to mess with team work.
So, yeah, im thinking CSS is the way to go. And its a fairly cheap game.

AA doesnt suck if you have a good team/clan but it can get slow if you get killed early in the round. I quit playing when 2.7 came out and the engine changed (i think)

I am going to have to vote strongly for Team Fortess 2 (TF2). While teamwork can make the game even more fun, the vast majority of the time the only team work visible will be someone calling for a medic. There are some servers where a decent percentage will have microphones and might actually discuss strategy, or they might just end up yelling out randomly. There are constantly new maps, a few official, but tons of user made, and they are adding new unlockable weapons for each different class. I suggest finding someone with it and giving it a try.

lovely?

CoD4 is the best choice, its new, has great graphics, TONS of players, plenty of diverse gameplay modes, and teamwork is not necessary.

sorry about the long time its taken me to respond.

i think im going to try out CSS and COD4.
how are they for playing without a clan? i've been in several top-ranked clans/guilds in several games, and i'm just not interested in serious gaming anymore. i need some fun without bringing along some sense of duty to playing.
basically, how many public matches are there, and how well are un-clanned players accepted?
also, do both have respawn on/off options?

now, how's a g5 for fps gaming? :)

I beleive that both have a dethmatch and a round mode, i dont have much experience with COD4

CSS, and i would assume COD4, there are plenty of public servers.

Ive played both competatively and non competatively in CSS and it works out just fine. Not sure what you mean by accepted. No one is mean to me because im not in a clan atm and not looking to join one...

just from what i've seen, un-clanned people are more hastily pinned down as noobs

btw--are there any free demos for css or cod4?

i went looking at tf2 on youtube and i have to say it looks pretty damn fun. it would certainly be a good break from cod4/css when id rather just play around. unfortunately, i'm on vacation until the end of summer and only have my girlfriend's macbook :(

right now it looks like i'll be buying css as soon as i get home, and then cod4/tf2 later down the line
