Lately my internets been real slow on everyones computer. Now I have no password or anything on my wireless. I have also been hitting my 60gb per month cap way to easy. For example there were no computers on last night somehow I hit my cap. Before I put a password on I would like to know if there actaully is anyone on my network.

Is there a program to find out whos on your internet connection?

Goto 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.0 in your browsers URL bar(usually right at the top of the page) and go through your router homepage which may well be protected by a default Password such as PASSWORD or ADMIN(should be in your documentation somewhere)

Check under attached/connected devices,

You really should have WEP/WPA etc on your network BUD ;)

check out the page of DHCP clients there too, it will list the hostnames and mac addresses of everyone with a current lease

it does this on my linksys router

add the macs of the ones you dont recognise to your ban list

Lesson number 101 ALWAYS have a Password on a Wireless Network!

You can also check if under my network connections, and see if anything appears......

What sort of area do you live in????

its dumb not to have one because if someone looks at kiddie porn on it, or downloads illegal music, then you will get in trouble

I would just put a password on it. If it is unencrypted then most likely someone else is on your network. The router config is the same as your gateway address. Right click your current connection and select Status, then the Support tab. Enter in your default gateway address into your url (most likely 192.168.1.1) and config your router. If you don't know your password for the router or never set one then its most likely the default password and in that case find the model of your router and google the model followed by defualt password. Example "Linksys wrt54g default password" and most likely there will be a website that will give you the default password. That or you can just check in the service manual.

They wouldn't find any evidence on YOUR machines though so that's not strictly true;), but I see what you're getting at and you could certainly be investigated:eek:

Any chance of an update of the situation??

Doesn't matter. I've had a friend convicted without any proof on her computer.

must be a USA thing then, because it wouldn't work like that over here, how would you deal with wireless hotspots if that were the case?

no you're not!! I had one in the pub next door to where I used to live for customers to use whenever they wanted , whether they were sitting outside or in the PUB itself and it was not policed in any way at all ;)

the majority of those are run by BT openzone etc... instead of independants, which requires registration.

Hi! That could easily mean two things:
1.) you're running LimeWire, BearShare , Bittorent or Bittlord on your computer, which is not good and can bring you viruses!
0r
2.) Your computer is being attacked and hacked by more IP addresses ( I doubt this is the case ).

So, if you're using some pf the P2P software, please inform us now!
