Difficulty Copying to DVD-R

Hi,

I am having difficulty in backing up files to a DVD-R. I have tried to copy the files to the CD/DVD drive and I get a message saying the files are ready to be written to the CD.

When I click OK it says that there is no disc in the drive.

I have tried several discs and confirmed that the drive is detecting and reading other discs.

Can anyone help.

Copyright Protection prevents making back ups. Download a freeware like DVD Decrypter.

I had to do it to make back ups of all my DVDs.

I take it that the original poster wasn't talking about copyright infringment for commercial DVDs, but just plain old file backups, like images, apps, graphics, etc.

If you use XP, there is no native burning support for DVD; it's CD only. You need either:

1. Vista for native CD and DVD burning support
or
2. a separate burning application for DVD burning in XP, like Nero, Roxio, or DeepBurner.

Oh my bad.

Finalburner isn't to bad either if you don't want to pay for a full program. Its freeware I use it for my DVD back ups. Tho I still have to strip the protection on my DVD discs in order to burn it. Rather stupid process imo.

the best freeware and possibly even commercial burning software available is imgburn. You can download it for free from here. If you already have a burning software then you might be experiencing other issues.
