Anyone know of a good enough Freeware program to Burn DVDs?
Not just data discs but, for example, Movies.
Like if i own Die hard and i want to make a copy to take it on a road trip so the original doesn't get scratched. You know.. well anyways do you know if there is such a program?

or more like in my case, where you film something on a camcorder then save it to the computer then want to put it on a disc to play in a dvd player

No, no, ah-ah, no, ah-ah NO!
No burning DVD movies - illegal!!! Unless you make your own, like a family video tape.

Bad boy:p
Sorry, the only thing I can think of is that you buy another copy of the movie. Or watch it 700x so that way it is in your head - that's the only way you can legally copy it, is by watching it so many times you can recall each part of the movie.:p:p:p:p

You are allowed to make copies of movies/software for personal use, which means backing up and so on. Also, filming your own stuff with a camcorder and burning it is perfectly legal (*cough**cough*)

actually Cohen is right, you can't copy a DVD that has copyright laws applied to it. Even if you are using it for your own personal use.

ok now i got a question

burning a movie that you already bought and own and still have is that legal since the old dvd is scratched while the one ya burn isnt scratched to badly?

copyright protection on DVDs is silly.

according to US copyright law, the fair use clause allows you to copy any media(including DVD) that you have purchase for your personal use as a back up. but according to the digital millennium copyright act, it is illegal to break the CSS(content scrambling system) copy protection on DVDs.

these two laws currently conflict each other, because almost all commerical DVD have CSS copy propection which basically voids the fair use clause, unless you can copy it without cimcumventing the copy protection.

a copyrighted DVD without copy protection that you purchase is legal to copy for your personal use as a back up. this case is possible but very unlikely today.

But then you have to remember that it is against the law to defeat copyright encryption, and by making a copy of the DVD, you have to defeat the protection
for it to play, right? So, all in all, it's illegal. But, I think that a replacement should be available from the production companies in case this happens.

^^ And to top that out, the government needs to set up damn rules about the stupid contradicting copyright protection crap.

Well in case I'm mistaken, I believe the original question was if there was any freeware software for it, not if it was legal or not. Just putting that out there.

There is a trial software that's great for ripping and burning DVDs, it's called DVDFab HD Decrypter 4. It will only allow you to rip a DVD but if you want to burn it to another disc, you will have to buy the full version. I make copies of my DVDs for myself, not for mass reproduction and selling. Don't buy pirated copies. Make your own.
