Bad ping on SOME WoW servers

I'm sure it's due to location, but I just wanted to bring it up with the pros to get their opinion. My friends play on korialstorsz or something like that which has a Western time zone, and I get around 200-350 ping on a reglular basis, but when I switch to Illidan or Daggerspine (both have a central time) my ping drops to 120-150. I'm in Pensacola, FL which is actually a central time zone. Is it because of the location? I can't see how my ping would jump 200 just because of that.

Yes, it could be due to location, but it also depends on your ISP and any internet traffic that is occurring on both yours and Blizz's network.

Have you PvPed competetivly with a 120 ping...and then dropped to 400? It's huge especially as a rogue.

I tried out some AB's last night and apparently there was no lag, cuz when i was behind somone I was actually hitting them. Hopefully that holds up, because it was only about a 10 minute test.

I myself played on Blackhand and Destromath and never saw a lat higher then 100 when servers were working correctly.

Its all about location but it also has to do with how many are on the server as well. You will notice better pings @ non-peak hours such as 1-5am when most people are at work or sleeping.

I expected this as well, but even when i log into Illidan at peak hours, when there is a que to get in, I still have 120.

250 ping in WoW isn't something to worry about, especially if you're connecting to a west coast server (which most are) from Florida. It also depends on your connection. My rogue is on Stonemaul, a west coast server, and I average about 150-200 ping. My priest is on Aerie Peak, another west coast server, and my ping is usually about 30! There are just a ton of variables.

ok cool. I'll sit on it for now. I let my friend come over and get his fix (his comp got hit by a storm) and he had the same ping and didn't notice any delay He's a warrior so if he wasnt able to hit people in melee due to lag I'm sure we would have noticed it.
