Spore or Mercenaries 2

well Spore is nice, though it's very short and the space stage (which is the longest part of the game) was VERY boring. Atleast, that's what I think.. The other stages in spore are very fun though. I've never played Mercenaries before so I can't say anything 'bout it.

Google spore DRM.

I thought spore was kind of fun, but a different kind of fun you know. Like playing Wii tennis vs. COD4. I haven't played mercenaries 2, but I remember the first one I played on Xbox and I was not impressed. I would have to say Mercs 2, spore is ok fun but it gets kind of old real quick. I would almost say Creature Creator is a better value than the game, because designing things is where all the fun in the game is.

now i have only played spore so i dont know how merc 2 will be but this is y little review on spore

ok i have spore i just got it the day it came out. honestly i thought it would be better than it is. put simply spore is a revolutionary failure for this reason. spore brings to the table extramly costomizable game play. no other game can compare. but the down side is to spore is the repeditiveness to the game. the game has only like five different buttons to push at max during the creature stage to kill something. then in hte tribal stage u only have 3 different kinds of weapons to us and only about 6 buildings to build. which is actully more than civilaztion mode where u can only build 3 different buildings. teh good thing about this stage is u can make the buildings look how u want. so the city u make is completely yours but the game play doesnt change. then in hte space stage the repeditivness comes back in doing countless missions that never seem to advance u any further through the game. what im saying is the for a hard core gamer your not going to like this game. but if u just wanna play it every now and then then i think this game has some potential

i hope this helps, i know it was kinda long sorry about that

Spore = 10 years of hard work wasted. They should have just made the creature creator only. The only real fun parts of Spore are the Cell stage (Flow rip-off) and Creature stage (really bad Diablo-ish game), the rest are eclipsed by much better games (Civilization 4 and Galactic Civilizations and any other space sim (Freelancer) pwn the Spore equivalents)

Will Wright makes games for the casual gamer, I would bet any amount of money he had your mom or girlfriend more in mind while making the game instead of any of us at this forum. Like the sims for instance. You almost sound insulted, it is kind of rediculous, they are great games just very basic, done well, on purpose. I was disappointed in the lack of content for experienced gamers but not surprised.

As far as fatalty's comments, lack of buttons to push equals lack of content? I would disagree about it it being redundant because it is different every time you play unless you lack the imagination or creativity to make something different.

No insults intended but it is a good game by industry standards but developers are moving towards mass appeal which means less content for experienced gamers, I knew this when I bought it but I still wanted to try it. Maybe if you would have read the reviews instead of just looking at scores?

Well most of the people I know that have heard of Spore before it was released are those that were experienced PC gamers. The PC game market isn't very saturated by mainstream gamers, that is console games strong-point. I realise that Spore was made for everyone and that it was made to revive the PC as a gaming platform for everyone but nothing in Spore even started to challenge my intelligence, at heart its strategic, but without the strategy. It is almost a game that is impossible to lose or even be set back much. I realise they are catering to the lowest common denominator in terms of gaming but they should have at least raised the bar and let the person playing the game think for themselves. Spore was hyped a LOT, hype is rarely targeted to the mainstream, especially when the game is unique and not just a sequel. The only people that are excited about hype are the ones that are interested in the product, which were PC gamers. I just felt that it didn't deliver what was expected of it. All of my friends (who got the game because they've known about it forever) weren't exactly impressed and after the initial awesomeness of it wore off after a few days, it was just another mediocre game to them. It is a new, unique game (from makers that are known for innovative games) but it wasn't awesome. Even simple games need challenge, look at Portal.

I agree for the most part, maybe it should have had an advanced feature for people who wanted or expected the content, I mean it would have been incredible to have offered a CIV-4 type experience during that stage and the equivalents in the other stages. Hey good news though, my wife is actually playing, and enjoying more than me. It did take a little convincing for her to try it though.

I got spore this week it's a really good game for the first 2 days then I spent the rest of the week playing Sins Of A Solar Empire and Portal which are games I've had for a few months. One major problem with Spore is when you design a fighter plane or a tank it flys and attacks the same as every other no matter how you arm or add propulsion to it or its shape the only thing you design is the look not how it is used.

Normally a new game makes you stop playing all your other games for weeks. Spore feels like it was made for the Nintendo DS then ported to the PC an extreamly simplified version of what Spore should of been. It's about as complex and deep as a beat em up on the SNES back in 1992 if you take away the build your own stuff part.

If I was buying a new game anytime now I would get X3 The Terran Conflict its out on the 25th Sep, a very deep game that allows you to design & build your own space stations and do anything you can think of for a space sim. Or I would get Sins OF a Solar Empire a mix of Command and conquer and civilisation but in space.

Mercs 2 is not out so not reviewed yet so I would wait for a review. Spore got 8/10 on Gamespot so if it gets an 8 it means its really a 6/10

Merc2 is Pandemic, Spore is EA...

Mercenaries 2 hands down... Spore was supposedly the next Sims and I was thinking(note to sarcasm), "Yeah, of course it is."

Spore is another view of what EA's games will be like in future, loaded with DRM and something you will play a couple hours while learning the possibilities then you will put it down. The same thing happened to me when the Sims came out and same with things like Garry's Mod. This free structured play can only go to a certain extent before it makes the game suck and ppl will just learn the capabilities of the objects in the game.

Sins of a Solar empire is a good game, I have played it quite a bit actually, another good alternative.

Yeah, Sins is awesome. I bought it the same day as Spore and I regret that I tried Spore first. I wasted some good gaming hours on Spore. Espicially now, being displaced by hurricane Ike, checking internet on an antiquated "Tiger Direct weekly special" on AOL DIALUP(!) at my mother's house with all the fun of Spider Solitaire. They need to fix my power and water so I can go home.

I just finished the storyline in Mercenaries 2, it was fun to play though the vehicle physics are a bit annoying. And the fact that a simple traffic sign can cause damage to a tank is a bit odd. I've only played through 60% of the games missions so I still have quite a bit to experience and do. And to those who have XP SP2 and are wondering if they have to update to SP3 to play Mercenaries 2 because it says so in the system requirements, the answer is no. I've been playing it in XP SP2 (completed in XP SP2) and also tried it out in Vista x64 to see if there were any differences in video quality and performance.

By the way, how does Sins Of A Solar Empire compare to the Homeworld series? I loved Homeworld 1, Cataclysm & 2 and Sins Of A Solar Empire seems quite similar.

Spore sucked to me....I will admit first 3 stages ROCKED but space got boring fast I expected more with the hype. Lets not forget the DRM hell I went through to get it work though...seriously pirates have it easier then legit owners anymore.

Mercs 2 was amusing but lack of explaining for quests etc rather sucked and it too because repetitive fast. Still though for mindless killing I give it a 8/10.
The driving system sucks though...no drift and sharp turns sort of ruins the fun...also some quests are retardidly easy while a few are "wtf is this"...aka 1 set there was a tank around each corner while escorting a VIP. (motorcycle = easy but tank shells can kill if they are close)

Either case I am glad I didn't buy either and I have good friends that lent me their copies for 2 weeks. ^-^
