No Ethernet? Randomass errors?

My built desktop (in sig) has decided to finally give me a reason to fault it. Earlier today, a friend of mine took my ethernet cable to lan some stuff together, then put it back in. I'm pretty sure this had nothing to do with it, but I came back, and the internet wouldn't work, so i replugged, restarted the modem, the computer, switched out cables, restarted, restarted, found out that I now had a black screen with a cursor for a desktop, finally got Explorer running (task manager, run), tried to install the mobo drivers (five or six times, restart every time), no ethernet, and a bunch of stuff is acting strange. I can't open my trend micro main console, object dock runs but doesn't move, it doesn't autorun DVDs or CDs. I reinstalled the video driver, and now I get a desktop when I log on, but I can't install ethernet drivers, and the ones I downloaded with this laptop were "corrupted". I get a little error window when I start up saying "nvsulib" (no quotes) and an "ok" button. Anyone have any clues? I would love to be able to use my computer.

Sounds like a weird case... I'd say try reformatting also. Can you see your ethernet adapter from Device Manager?

Apparently, system restore works! I just restored to the oldest point (about five days ago), and everything is back up. I don't want to know what happened.
