You seem to be unaware, but torrenting copyrighted software is illegal. Old technology is still under copywright isn't it?

Garbage and fake data is just the torrent itself. It's fake. There are so many of those online

been trying to find really old software for magellan gps system and other old technology.
whatever that is, even if it's old it's most probably copyrighted.
Most people do no understand that even if a software is outdated and no longer on the market it has rights. You cannot download and distribute

when i contacted magellan, the makers of the gps, theyt said they dont have the software, and my only option was a utorrent file.

so what can i do now? its a 2 disk set, i only have disk 1.

magellan doesnt support/or care about the gps model i have from 2000.

its too old for them...any suggestions appreciated, thanks, p

Did they recommend the uTorrent option?

Against forum rules to discuss this... email someone though and they may help you.

I'm confused with this whole topic, I can't decipher whether it's a legal or illegal discussion.

But if the company only has the older software available via a torrent file, I would assume that would be legal.

uTorrent itself is not illegal, matter of fact it can be used to legally download Linux software, and the Warhammer Beta program, courtesy of EA Games, as well as many other pieces of software.

According to the law, yes, but then there are ethics and morals... if there are no other cars in sight would you drive a red light? IMO it's usually acceptable to torrent stuff that's not available anymore (oldschool games being a good example), even though law says otherwise, but now we're getting off the track again...

IMO there's nothing wrong with downloading driver software through torrents if it's not available on manufacturer's website anymore.

@OP - it's the interwebz, you're bound to come across fake torrents and whatnot. Your best bet is to get torrents from some popular sites and see if it's got any positive feedback/comments or whether it's tagged as fake.. I would just keep trying.
