Bad to reformat?

I have a new Dell (6GB Ram, 750GB hd, Quad Core 2.6) that's running 64 bit Vista and it keeps crashing when I open uTorrent. This pisses me off bc really the only reason I bought a new computer was to DL live music and videos of concerts and burn them to CDs and DVDs. (I have read numerous threads on the uTorrent forum and no one seems to know why this is). So I was thinking I would reload my XP Pro until Microsoft can figure out a way to get Vista to work w/these programs. My question is if I reload XP (that's possible, right?) and down the road decide to reload Vista via the boot disc that came w/my computer (ie reformat it), will that have any negative effects on the system? I can't see why it would, but wasn't 100% sure and don't want to screw something up. Thanks.

Post the model name and number of your Dell machine. We need to see if XP drivers are available for your system. If you can get XP drivers, then I don't see any problems.

be sure that the cd you have is the windows disk
usually, the only thing dell sends out now, without you specifically requesting it, is the resource cd (all that has is the drivers and diagnostic tools)

usually, they creat a restore partition on your hdd
so if you do install xp, and end up deleting that partition and don't have the windows disk, then you have to try to get one from dell, which you may have to pay for

other then that, like said previously, as long as you can get all of the xp drivers, you'll be fine

How would I know if I were running a stable version on uTorrent? I got the computer ab 3 weeks ago and DLed uTorrent from their website. It's odd, sometimes it freezes immediately, sometimes it takes a while and one time I was able to DL an entire video concert and it worked fined and never froze. Actually right now I am running BitTorrent, but they recently merged w/uTorrent so I think the program is essentially the same now.

Thanks for the info ab the reformat. Still sounds a bit sketchy, and I'll check out the disk that came w/the system to see if it's a windows disk (I don't think it is). W/my old machine (emachines) I reformatted probably 5 different times but all it had was a Boot CD that I would insert and restart, I was just assuming this would be the same.
