Is AM2+ Deneb confirmed for December 20?

At first I heard January 8, 2009. Now, I'm seeing December 20 for the 920 and 940. (Sorry, can't find the article again, but it's also shown in the Wikipedia page that has been constantly updating.)

Is this definite or speculation? That would totally make my Christmas if I could get myself a Deneb in less than two weeks! :D

I'd google it and see what I can find.

Also nice that you're getting a Deneb, I'll probably upgrade next christmas or maybe even a bit after that. As long as my rig can run my games I'm happy :)

Yea, I can't wait. To be honest, my 6000+ runs my games just fine with small slowdowns here and there, but I'm trying to upgrade things and be done for a long while. After the Deneb, it's likely that I won't upgrade for at least a year. After I'm married, which will be in a year or two, it's going to be hard to drop that kind of money on things that she might see as a waste, even though she is generally cool about my hobbies. ;)

BTW, I HAVE seen articles on it already. I just wasn't sure if it was official because no one seems to be talking about the pushed up release date.

at least a year? :O

A brand new cpu that is awesome should last you for 2 years at least

I'm keeping my 6000+ for at least a year :)

speculation until the 17th or the 18th when nda is lifted

Ah, okay thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll check back in a week or so.

And yea, I guess more like 2+ years. :) Once Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 come out, I probably won't be playing anything else for a long time. A Deneb and 4870 1gb will be more than able to handle those, so I'll be set!

You'll have to check your board's website (I would check for you, but you didn't provide specific model numbers). A lot of them are going to have Phenom II support with a BIOS update.

What's all hte hype about all this? there specs aren't super dooper...is there something i'm missing?

For the price, yes it is "super dooper." It's beating similarly priced Yorkfields, far surpasses current Phenoms, and is going to be awesome bang for the buck. One site's recent gaming benchmarks showed that the $275 Deneb is going to be competitive in some games with the i7 920 and even the ~$500 i7 940, without the added cost of getting a new mobo and DDR3 RAM.

It's basically like why the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 got all the hype (and still does). It isn't absolutely top-of-the-line bleeding edge, but it's an amazing value and performs almost as well as products costing much, much more.

If that's not good enough for hype...oh well.

Would that mean that even a simple AM2 mobo would support Quads???
Yeah I checked when I got home last night (on work computer at the moment) and with CPUz it says AM2 lol gay.

There is not going to be very many AM2 boards that will get a Phenom II bios update. But the majority of AM2+ boards will. The lower end AM2+ might not because of there cheap power set up.
