i was just wondering if anybody could guide me through how to load ubuntu on a 2gb flashdrive

Lately someone else asked if it was possible to install ubuntu 8.10 onto an 8gb usb flash drive where I explained if simply copying a live for cd iso image onto it failed you would have to partition and format it for Linux. Apparently that person had working results from What was heard later from the same source when the drive was successfully partitioned, formatted, and ubuntu installed onto it.
So in other words, he has no clue whatsoever. But his Post made it sound like he did, huh?

I have not personally done that (never had the need to) so I cannot vouch for it's accuracy, but Debuntu is a fairly decent and respected website, so I doubt they would steer folks wrong.
Than again, CF is incredibly respected, yet refer to Post #2...

I have , personally, partitioned and installed kubuntu 7.1 on my kingston 3gb flash drive. the debuntu method also works.
You couldn't vouch for a hole in the ground!
I didn't have to post any links to explain that this wasn't difficult task to begin with. In fact any search can pull up a good number of links for "pendriveLinux" or some other tutorial. Gee? I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but...huh? It's a well-known fact that anyone on CF who:
A) has any sort of computer knowledge, and
B) has more than 25 Posts, or
C) isn't a complete idiot

Don't plan on any long term installation since they tend to degrade after a period of time. While you can partition and format pen drives and sticks easily enough the information can also be lost easily as well. They were never designed for any long term storage but temp transfers of data and one means of rescuing a system.

i only did so because i despise the windohs chop up we have at school. at 'idle' it uses 60% cpu on an e2610 or something. it sucks. so we generally just go about and clear the cmos to allow boot other in bios. they want us to be productive - then have computers that freeze while using a web browser and MS Word.
If the systems aren't well maintained after everyone is done using them you can expect to see problems like that. The teachers will simply give up trying to undo any changes that students make until the person who sets them up has the time to go through them and bring them back.
Besides ubuntu one of the easiest now to get familiar there are several other rather small distros you could see tried out on a pen drive like Zenwalk, Mephis, Gentoo, Darnsmall, Puppy, etc. That's if you want to see a different "flavor of the month" anyways!
