hi all,
i have just purchased a new 4870 and 650w corsair power supply, after much debating i have decided to reinstall my os from xp pro 32 bit to vista ultimate 64bit. this is also preparing for a ram increase fron 2 to 4gb.

my problem is with cod4, i installed it about a week and will have to re install it on my new os, will the product key be usable again if i uninstall cod4 before the clean install. I am just worried that i wont be able to use that key again, so i will have to buy another copy. would there be any way to keep my profile or would i have to start a new?

thanks to all replies in advance

Yes you can use that key again. The key is stored in the registry of windows so make sure you have it written down or readily available. When you do the re-install you will lose it (in windows registry). Just make sure you have it when you re-install it and you're fine.

so there will be no problem with using the key for a secont time? its just i thought otherwise people would just use each others keys to register thier games.

Do i have to un install the game before i do the install?

I'm pretty sure you can actually use the same key on more than one computer, just that only one computer can play online with the key at a time.

Yah, i think I've done that at LANs, not 100% sure.

I believe you would have ot uninstall but it might do that as part of the installation process.

COD4s DRM is not obnoxious and over the top like some other games. As long as you have the key and no one else is using it online at the same time as you, you're good to go. It doesnt link to your account, register online or anything like that.

I have used my product key 3 times now. The first on my laptop for Afghanistan. Then I came home and installed CoD4 on my desktop. I had a major Windows crash and had to re-install the entire operating system and CoD4. That totals 3 times with no issues what so ever. You'll be just fine with a fresh install of CoD4. The worst part will be downloading all the patches and getting them installed.

Patches arent that big a deal are they? You just gotta do both 1.6 and 1.7
I thought 1.6 included everything prior to it (including maps) and then you could go from 1.6 to 1.7 with jsut one patch. Doesnt seem too bad, i guess its a bit of downloading...

The key issue will not matter. The only time a key will conflict is if 2 people are playing at once on the same key (I've tried it)

For most games it works like that but if your playing non online games, just dont register it and you can put it on multiple computers, without playing online
