You got hit by the virus that's affecting everyone my friend. THe computer im on has the same problem, i had to get a disk from a friend, still everything is disabled no task bar, its dug so deep into my co mptuer im literally screwed. You will need to use the disk if you plan on getting on. But that won't fix your problem, if you have this virus

Did it give you any error beeps when it tried to reboot. Are there any messages that you can remember. What were you doing the last time you had your system on? Did it just shut down by it's self?

Any additional information would be nice.

If your computer is on a loop its the virus thats disabling it. Does it load, then get to the xp logo then go Blue? And then it reboots and asks the same thing, start safe or normally but is always on a loop? If so you will need a disk

Do you mean it goes to boot but then says a file is corrupted or so on and asked for the disk?
Or something different?

Check the bios to make sure the hard drive is recognized, also check the boot order.

if you have the virus, couldn't you just fix it by reinstalling windows. ?

Most of the time that will work. Sometimes it won't. You would also need to wipe the drive and do a fresh install for that to work some of the time and it would mean losing most files.

Did you go to BIOS and somewhere among the first screens (options) there should be one listing all IDE/SATA divices - check to see if your HDD is there.

You can use any CD or DVD with same OS as the one you've got. Check with friends or on local Craigslist.
If you'll getit - load from CD and choose repair options, run HELP for the list of commands, pick some like FIXMBR and FIXBOOT then CHKDSK /p
usually helps with bad boots, if your HDD still works

I had to reformat and reinstall windows, worked like a charm I only did it because my documents got corrupted any way. Thats what you should do... if you cannot find a disk.

But thats a last ditch measure.
