Preferably free... windows media player looked nice but i was woundering if there was better, i have used alot and they all have their pros and cons but right now i could really make use of a high quality picture even if the rest of the features are lacking.

Welcome to [CF]! I love the Green Bay Packers... good football team. I hated to see Favre leave, though.

VLC Media Player is very good, with many file format supports.

Go for Media Player Classic Home Cinema. It the best choice for viewing HD content since it has DXVA.

I use
-VLC
-SMPlayer
-FFDShow + Media player classic.
All of them work very well, and I can't really tell the difference in quality on compressed video files.
