"MS AntiSpyware 2009"- how do I remove it?

One day while surfing the net a random window popped up called MS AntiSpyware. It's obviously some sort of virus, because I never downloaded this, and a "Microsoft" update wouldn't ask me to purchase the full program after installing it onto my computer.

So, how do I remove it? I googled MS AntiSpyware 2009 and found some people saying to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to remove it. I'm not so sure its safe using something thats on the net. So, how do I remove it? I have Norton Antivirus, but it's out-of-date (haven't purchased a newer versoin or updated it in a while). Thanks it advance.

As it said, run Malwarebytes Antimalware program, follow the instructions here and post back the logs requested.

Malwarebytes

Like they said-- Malwarebytes annti malware. My daughters boyfriend got and I tried everything that I had heard of to get rid of it, including editing the registry. No good. SO then I heard about Malwarebytes. It found and eliminated it right away.

AnitMalware bytes works pretty well. it should remove it. iv had similar problems twice and it has taken care of it. also, use avast instead or norton. plus, avast is free.

Uh, thanks for the help, but problem solved. I just ran the restore system. Now 10GB seemed to have disapeared, lol.

I hate to tell you this but malware likes to hide out in the system restore files so even if you do a system restore you still could be infected. Run malwarebytes as suggested as a precaution along with hijackthis and post both log files.

:| That's been my solution to every virus I couldn't remove with my anti virus. Well, I guess it won't hurt to use that program. Thanks for the warning.

That pop-up was just a site running a fancy script, I don't think there is any virus on your computer.

In the future, you can use Firefox + NoScript to avoid this.

I've had this "Antivirus 2009" thing before and my computer is fine.
