I also want it just like Windows XP, Home and Pro where Home has limited networking features and a reduced price and Pro has everything, or how about Windows 7......period.....thats it.....all-in-one

Home's limited networking features were it couldn't connect to a domain level network thus it could not be managed by active directory nor could you log in with network accounts. Other than that, the Microsoft networking client is identical and TCP/IP is TCP/IP.

Unless you are referring to some Applications like remote desktop, which really isn't a networking feature, but an application.

I think if they make it a $50 upgrade for Vista users most people would jump right over. If it is $150+ I am going to email my MS rep and ask for a free copy.

Yeah I was referring to the inability to connect to domains. Also, Home has the group policy editor disabled (among a couple other admin tools).

That is pretty much the differences. Home can't be managed by a server, connected to domain, and lacks remote desktop built in.

Now, Vista is a whole other story. While I like what Microsoft attempted, their price tiers were way off and their marketing was really misinforming. I hope that Windows 7 is marketed like OS X. One flat price for everything, no more of this home professional crap, and I hope it isn't as expensive.

I would pay $50 for an upgrade probably not much more though.

Having just deleted my Vista partition, I would definitely buy Windows 7, thankfully Vista was given to me by my school because our computer lab was part of some education thing that allowed them to give students licensed copies of Windows, I plan to buy Windows 7 whenever it comes out because thanks to the public beta, it will be like getting the first Service Pack upon release because a lot of potential bugs will already be worked out.

You have pretty high hopes since MS has released every OS as a public beta first and yet still released a buggy OS from the release date. I had a copy of Vista 3 days before it was released, our MS rep dropped off some promotional copies of the first version. It was the exact same version that was released on retail, Vista Ultimate. I got one 32bit disk and one 64bit disk. I waited a full year before I put it on my personal system, and I had the beta running on a desktop at work (HP business AMD64 3Gi RAM, Radeon x800 series) and it was so damn buggy and ran like butt that I waited a full year to put in on my new rig.

I hope they fix a lot of things with Windows with Windows 7. For one, I hope they actually start enforcing different levels of access to the kernel, like a Unix based OS does.

My bottom line though is, if it's not a cheap upgrade and my MS rep won't give me a free copy I will probably not buy it. I will wait till I find a bundle deal online and get an OEM practically free.

Since Windows 7 is built off of Vista it acts like a working OS, even in beta. Vista was a mess because it was a complete revamp of nearly everything. I have been using the beta since it became available and have been running my computer nearly 24/7. All my programs that I use on a daily basis are installed and every game that was installed on Vista has been reinstalled on 7 with no incident. I see no reason to go back to Vista just because it is a retail product. 7 is noticeably fatser, provides a much faster workflow once you start using the Superbar, Jump Lists, improved Navigation Pane,etc.. I even get to take benefit from the protection UAC gives now that it has become less annoying (by a huge margin), I keep Windows Defender on, as well as Windows Firewall. I have no AV installed or third party security software so if something does come along I will be able to test Windows' own ability to protect itself, the only thing that protects it alongside Windows is my routers' firewall. Even the relatively useless Flip 3D has been made faster so that I can utilize Switcher2 to emulate OSX Expose perfectly with no delay. Unless Vista SP2 plans to introduce anything fun into Vista, I plan to stay with 7.

lol, I totally forgot to install AV software on my laptop for almost a month (I guess I didn't plan to keep 7 on here when I installed it). I just noticed the other day and installed it

Somehow I didn't get a virus...despite the multiple porn website viewings, HA :p

where can i get a copy of windows 7?

The windows 7 Beta link can be found on maxiumpc.com, search there I don't know the exact link though. And 7 is buggy, it is better than vista but MS has some work to do with it. My Dell 1501 is starting to act wierd since install and I have ran antivirus/spyware checks and I am clean.

Is there a release date for the proper Windows 7 yet? Do you think it is in the near enough future to put of buying a new computer? Thanks, Doug.

I've really taken to osx now - still just running 10.4, but it's great. Very solid. For day to day usage it's all I'd ever want.

I'll be building a brand spanking new machine this year, and I'll happilly give windows 7 a shot, but after vista I'm dubious. XP was fantastic with SP2, bar the obvious security problems - I just want that, but totally secure from viruses etc, and a bit flashier.

What I really don't get, is that these o/s's offer nothing new over windows 95, yet require 100x the power... It's really pathetic.

I totally agree, there are so many basic little things I like about OS X that no other OS does that it really becomes annoying when trying to use other OSes. I mean I love how I can scroll over with my mouse up and down any window, not just the active one on the screen.

However, there are many under the hood improvements from Windows 9x kernel, but you are right the end user never sees those things nor do they understand or care.

Yeah OSX has been having great sales lately due to the band wagon of vista haters, even though it's not as bad as people say or atleast in my expiernce. I would love to try OSX but I have a problem spending 1200$ for a company base line model. I'm not saying I hate 7 but after using it a while I wasn't as impressed with it as I was in the begining. It may run far more effiecent then vista but I was hoping that it would have new features to the way it would operate but no It's vista with a few new things. So the answer for me was Linux Ubuntu, It's user friedly with a lot of cool features and I can get it on computers that are way under 1200$ (not trying to show you apple users any hate) and it's so lite I'm getting it on a netbook I just ordered (just waiting for it in the mail) and I'm running it on a laptop that is 4 years old and it's pretty fast.

There are many tech bloggers that think Windows 7 will not draw the majority of the XP crowd away. It definitely won't draw away enterprises or markets.

Yeah, I mean its safe to say Microsoft screwed up. With as much as people pay for OS's it would be insane to think that they wouldn't feel betrayed or angry. Personally, iv never payed for an OS(Legally), but id be extremely mad if I did.

So, What does people think of Windows 7? I am using it and just lovein it!!! Cant wait till the final comes out.... It blows Vista away... Post your comments.

I am a Vista fan. I just love this operating system more then any other I've used. I have an evaluation version of Win7 sitting here on a DVD. I've been trying to convince myself to install it. I'd be interested in hearing more of why you love win7 so much? Perhaps your comments might convince me to go ahead and give it a try.

In the meantime I'll read the rest of this thread :p
