The Gateway is your best as far as gaming, Dell would be the worst but I have read a lot of positive reviews on the xps series as far as being a reliable laptop's and lots of nice features.

Dell are good quality. I thought you where looking at gaming cause you did mention something about good graphics. Any laptop you buy today will be able to ru windows 7.

Any Laptop can run Windows 7. A pentium M 740 with GMA 900 from 2006 on an old sony can run 7. How ever if you feel strong about it pick yourself up a mac and bootcamp 7. Also 7 will have to be 32bit....

ok, from what has been said above, a little advicce.

1. consider steering clear of dell, they have the worst customer support on the planet. However, should you know how to fix the majority of hardware/softare issues on your own, they are very good systems for very good prices.

2. steer clear of alienware and apple. they may look awesome, but you are paying about 150% of the actual price that you can get the same system for elsewhere, just because of the name "alienware" or "apple". neither are all they are cracked up to be.

also, whoever said about apple is a little silly and didnt read that you wanted to use vista 7 ^^

go to either:

www.newegg.com

or

www.ibuypower.com

they sell performance notebooks within your price range, all of the ones around your price range will be good for the price and more than capable of what you want them for.

I dont know what the sony fx series is like, look up sony fx review and then look through some of em.

I cant really offer you any kind of system that would be good because you seem very interested in the looks of it, but with that price so long as you stick to places that are generally very good value for money, you will get just that with the look you want

i've been looking at lenovo laptops. they look nice and have good specs + good price. I'm probably going to go with one of those or an eeeeeeeeepc. i still didn't decide. because one is like 350 and one is 1300. lenovo is more powerful but eeeeepc is more portable. so i dont know. what do you think?

Kill bill do you know why I rag on you apple guys so hard, as a apple user your option consist of two laptops, Macbook and Macbook pro. One has a raping price tag of about 2,000$ and the other is about 1,200$. And these are your options. PC, a bunch of different companies to choose from, Are you buying Dell HP Sony Gateway Acer Asus, do you like AMD or Intel, What about Nvidia or ATI? With PC you have a variety of option at all sort of prices. You do have the better OS (not saying Vista or 7 sucked) but I am running Linux on my laptop's and from what I have seen next to my buddies macbook are OS's about the same in efficiency. And with the amount of open source available I have been able to find everything I need out of a pc to work on Linux. So I will continue to buy my 700$ laptops that match a macbook in performance and run a OS as great as yours without joining the apple cult. So why buy apple?

Well it's hard to say, have they released the prices for the baseline model yet? I read somewhere that one of the models is suppose to get up to 9 hours of battery life with the 6 cell. But I like acer more, But my honest opinion Dell mini 9 would be your best bet for net books. Plus you arn't stuck with windows with Dell, if you like Linux you can get ubuntu on the mini.

Sure. Can't wait for you to show me an Linux Final Cut studio or a Linux Movie editing app that has All of: Motion features,Final Cut Pro features, Sound Track Pro features,Live type features and for the fun of it Color features with it's ease of use. Can't find one? Thats why people Buy Macs

I bet you didn't even look to see what video or photo editing software linux has. I have just got my laptop so it's on my to do list to find some of those app's for it but I won't need all the features final cut offers. But that goes back to my original point, I don't care you recommend mac, it's the fact the 90% of the time thats all you give is recommendations for mac even if there are better options out there for that persons needs. And for some people they have a hard time buying computer that is either 1200$ or 2000$, for there baseline models. I do believe OSX is better than windows but apple needs a laptop in the 5-700$ range for those who want a good notebook and are not looking for performance.
