World of Warcraft vs PC

PC is in signature. When i'm at 1920 x 1200 I can't even come close to maxing out the video settings! I am severely disappointed with this! Even with some stuff maxed and others turned as low as possible... I vary from 30 - 60fps! How is this possible!

Do you think a GTX285 will fix that problem?

that system should be able to dominate wow under any settings. are all your drivers up to date?

You would want to update your video drivers with the latest from the nvidia website. Also there a select few of nvidia cards that have been known to have compatability issues with Wow

I run WoW at the same resolution as you at max settings with 8x AA etc, no problems it is glued to 60fps (Vsync refresh rate of my monitor), with no slowdown whatsoever.

Are you running Vista? If so, upgrade to 4gb RAM - I had 2gb with Vista at this resolution and it lagged like a *****. As soon as I popped the extra 2gb in, it fixed everything.

Nah... XP 32 bit version. But I could get another two sticks just incase. You think i'm just lacking memory?

I'm so aggravated as to why I can't figure this out. Why the hell does my FPS drop so damn much. My 8800GTS is even overclocked a good amount. I know it's not as good as yours but whenever I am in a big battle (not even a raid) it drops to 30dps instantly. Even sometimes while flying a gryphon it drops to like 40fps!

I can play it with absolutely 0 issue. My issue I can't keep 60fps pinned with my clock speeds and such.

I am not sure if it's faulty hardware or if I am just not powerful to have the settings at max at 1920 x 1200 resolution.

I tried WOW and didn't like it, but I played with max settings and at 1920x1200 and had no issues keeping 40fps+. Maybe it is a server issue? I played on a new server at the time with hardly any players.

I can keep it above 40fps for the most part. It hovers around 40-60fps. Drops to 30fps when it gets busy.

That seems about right for that system. My system with EVERYTHING maxed out even shadows at 1600 X 1200 when it gets busy goes down to 45 frames. Although I have a bit more powerful video card. Also from what I hear if you are testing this in Dalaran. . . . well don't. They have had texture issues from day one that will bring your frames down. Outside of Dalaran 150 - 220 FPS, inside 45 - 50 FPS (while busy).

How is this possible!

They added a new gaming engine to WoW with the WOTLK expansion. It improves graphics and I believe they went to DX9 (use to be DX8 might still be)
Either case they messed things up and their are massive leaks. Memory leak + GPU leak = poor performance. The new engine also does a CRAPPY job at using Dual-Core machines which is another issue.

Disabling Shadows helps a lot on your performance. So prepare for a 1-2 year wait for them to fix the problems.

But some people have no issues while others have massive issues. Its strange for sure but I know its partly to blame the gaming engine they added...like usual they failed to test it before release.

I can run @ 60 FPS @ 1440x900 but my folks with a 3.0ghz X2 5400+ 9800GT system can't get more then 30-40 FPS.

Not Dalaran... anywhere really. I am in Borean Tundra though. But it happens mostly in Outlands because that's where I spend most of my time getting my characters up in level.

Well WoW (I THINK) has an FPS lock so it doesn't go over 60, so you can free up some system resources. I can't recall the way to unlock it (if there is even one). I read that on the WoW forums one time, but I can't remember if it is true or not. Like others have said though, try updating your drivers or adding another 2 gigabytes of RAM.

Also, how long has the problem been going on for?

The 'fps lock' you are talking about is what I mentioned earlier, called Vsync - all it does it synchronise your framerate with the refresh rate of your monitor to make it as smooth as possible.

Yeah, I do think WoW is more demanding than people think at higher settings. Your 8800GT is a fairly powerful card, but that is a high resolution you are playing with, and I don't think the WoW engine really handles lots of players on screen at once that well.

I'm sure a newer graphics card would solve your problem, but to be honest, 30fps minimum is definitely playable. Hell, I've got friends who play the game on 5 year old laptops - 9fps max.

You can unlock it... I know how too.

Um, I am not totally sure to be honest. I only play with my little brother and he's PC has been down so I haven't played in like 3 months. I turned it on the other day because I am just gonna level my Druid without his ass and I don't remember having such disappointing FPS!
