sata2 vs sata raid controller

can i use a sata2 raid controller with a sata hdd?

Most likely, you can use a SATA1 Drive on a SATA2 controller. Just make sure the controller supports it (most do).

What slot type would you like to fill? PCI or PCIe?

i have both a pci and pcie x1 open so doesnt matter. prefer pci e tho unless the price is over 150$

Granted, the more ports you have and if you start including a cache on the controller card, the price skyrockets.
