Wireless Monitor

Since looking at the new Windows 7 I have been looking for a wireless monitor. I would like to find one that looks like a desktop monitor but then undocks and I can carry it around the house. It also must be touch screen. I don't want a tablet PC, just a monitor. The higher the resolution and screen size the better.

I don't think there is such thing as a wireless monitor...
There would be no way to get power to the monitor, and I don't even think they have VGA/DVI receivers... Hopefully they will in the future though.

IIRC it has been tested, but right now with current technology there is insufficient bandwidth ( i think ) ... Also, tho power wasn't wireless either, I'll try to dig up the source for you :)

I was just wondering if there was such a monitor. Reason I was thinking about it was because of windows 7s touch screen abilities. Think about it. you are at your computer and want something more comfortable to sit at so you grab your monitor and take it to the couch. You don't have to worry so much about a keyboard or mouse since the screen is all touch. Just hit a button and you have a keyboard and your finger is your mouse. At the same time you still have the power of you desktop just gone portable.

Who knows maybe some day windows can be set up to run 2+ user accounts from the same computer and have multiple portable monitors in different rooms. Which would eliminate reasons to have more than 1 computer inside the home. Unless you are a gamer and like your video settings turned up to there max settings.

I have also read about the wireless power ideas and think it will be great to have. I was originally thinking of the wireless monitor to have internal batteries which would be charged when at its base, but the wireless power would be a better option. In theory it would make the monitor lighter to carry around since a large portion of its weight would be its battery. Another option for making the portable monitor is either an LED LCD or OLED screen as each use less power than a regular back lite LCD. I would prefer the OLED mainly because it could be very thin.

Only area I am not sure on how it would work is the transmitting from the monitors base to the monitor and monitor back to the base.

Now if there is any big R&D person from Dell, HP, Sony, Samsung or any other makers of monitors reading this break out the whip. I am a US consumer and I want to buy one.

technology can't move that fast to the consumer, they would lose money and overwhelm the consumer with such products. It needs to be tested and proven before it hits the consumer market at a fair price for it to be successful.

Agreed. I hear this wireless electricity technology is going to be used for massive solar panel satellites that beam down electricity to collection sites on the ground. This is set to launch in 3 years, I figure it might be a while before this stuff hits the market haha.
