Hello people!

Okay another frustrating problem

I have this Wireless router:

http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WirelessNRoutersandGateways/WNR2000.aspx

I currently have my Virgin media cable modem connected through it wired,All works fine.

But now i have a Netbook and have tried to set up wireless on it.

Ive gone through the settings on my router, changed the security to
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

and have set up a PassPhrase so to connect to my wireless you need the password.

Now my Netbook picks up my wireless (Strongest signal) which is good and also picks up other peoples unsecure  connections too but i cant connect to mine at all

I click connect...then it asks for my passkey which is where i put in the password i set up to connect to my router and then i get

Windows was unable to connect to Nevak

What am i doing wrong? Ive tried all diffrent security settings on my router and still no luck

perhaps when your putting in your passphrase on your netbook, your entering it in the WEP spot and not WPA

I thought the passpphrase was to gain access to my router so i can connect things to it?

Its the netbook thats asking for the passphrase,i created one for my router but its not letting me in lol

Just to be triple sure, what version of Windows are you running and what type of encryption?

Netbook - Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32Bit
Desktop - Windows 7 Ultimate RC 64bit

Encryption? this it?

WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

Ive tried all diffrent security settings,Even Wep which is the lowest protection i gather and still no luck

OK, just for starters drop TKIP encryption it is worthless as it has been cracked.

AES is still solid though. So for simplicity let us try AES WPA encryption method and type in a passkey and see if it works. Make sure everything is kosher on the router and the client side.

Windows 7 is a beta OS, there could be some sort of issue with the networking client and your router. Has it ever worked before with Win7?

Right these are the settings i can choose from the control panel of my router.

On the wireless access list option you can see there i have entred the Mac address for my Netbook and enabled it.

And no tlarkin, never worked before in Vista or windows 7....i think its something im doing,Not windows.

The router works flawless wired, just getting things to connect to it wireless

OK,

Lets start from scratch then, reset your router with the reset button. Telnet into it over your web browser, configure your wireless SSID, configure your security, let's choose WPA 2 PSK AES, drop TKIP all together.

Put in a passphrase that is like 8 characters or something.

Then tell your windows client to connect to that SSID and input your passkey and see what happens.

Open up a web browser and type in the IP address of your router in the address bar, ie 192.168.1.1 or whatever it is. You are creating a web based telnet session into your routers UI technically speaking.

So, did you hold down the reset button for 10 seconds, do a full reset, then telnet back in and set everything back up?

With doing what I previously recommended?

Guys i found the problem,In advanced settings theres an option to Wireless access list....im was set to on.....it had to be disabled!

turned it off and bam....works great,I get just under 10mb connection using wireless on my netbook,My main connection to my pc is 20mb so not bad at all.

i did have a 50mb connection,the fastest from vergin media but i downgraded...it was getting costly :D
