Power Calibration Error...

I recently just tried to burn off a cd with Nero and when I did, it got to about 5% and then stopped and gave me the error, "Power Calibration Error" ... I tried using a different program to burn the cd, even tried rebooting and it still does the same thing... any ideas why it does that or how to fix it?

you are not using a pirate copy of nero?

Don't think that has much difference in the problem.
Taken from Nero: http://www.nero.com/eng/FAQs_Error_Messages.html#9

Please try the following solutions:
Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service.

I can tell you I've had this same problem myself, with an old Sony CD-RW drive. I ended up replacing the drive.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using a fairly new Toshiba Laptop... and I tried using a different CD-R along with many different programs other than Nero... they all gave me the same error...

Seriously? A DVD/CD-RW Drive would just crap out like that, not even a year old? For no apparent reason?

It could have been faultly made.

yeah I guess so... turns out that it was faulty, I took it in to have it serviced and they just ended up replacing it. The new one works good now. :)

I got the same Nero error messages when trying to burn CD-RWs. The NEC DVD-CD combo drive I had crapped out after just six months, so it's not at all unusual to have one die at any time.
